Belle and Bunty – Insider Style

AISLE STYLE, Bridal Style

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting the super stylish ladies Alice and Hannah who are the designers behind elegant British ready-to-wear and bridal label Belle and Bunty a few times and I’m also a big stalker fan of their Instagram feed as they document their ever so stylish goings on and outfits. So as two very chic ladies themselves, I thought it would be fun to see how they would style their favourite Belle and Bunty dress to give brides a little designer insight!  Here are the ever so gorgeous results which I hope inspire any future B&B ladies…

The Silk Satin Darcey Dress is delicate, demure and charming, with a sweetheart bust line and high neckline in beautiful lace, trimmed in Silk Satin binding and elbow length slim lace sleeves. The lace back finishes in a stunning diamond keyhole as the perfect back detail, with small satin covered buttons running down the back as a finishing touch. A very flattering shape on all figures, The Darcey has a slim band to accentuate the waist, which then flows beautifully into a panelled fit and flare skirt with small puddle train to create a real showstopper.

I adore the shades of amethyst and metallic bronze and gold tones which work so well with this dress, elegant and luxurious. The oxblood nails are so on trend and the jewelled details on the shoes add a touch of glamour with the metallic hint. In all honesty it’s all about the floral and jewelled hair accessories from Dolce and Gabbana, definitely something for the fashion forward bride. I hope to see more of this!

The Petal Dress [a London Bride favourite!!] is a sassy, modern take on the classic column dress style. The understated Art Deco graphic panelled lines are offset with pretty layered handcrafted silk petal detailing and stunning low scooped back. Slim fitting and high necked, The Petal offers an elegant ladylike look with risque, striking back in true Belle & Bunty style.

I’m definitely a fan of having some killer heels for the wedding, after all this beautiful leopard print pair would most certainly get use after the big day! The clusters of layered pearl necklaces add an elegant touch to the high neckline of the dress so the all important knockout back detail is left untouched. A latte coloured natural nail is a chic shade and to add a bit of colour a beautiful oversized bouquet of dahlias and chocolate cosmos, which adds that element of drama to the florals.

I wanted to find out a little more about the designers behind the scene, so here Hannah and Alice spill about their keen hoarding habit, trapeze skills and why they’d want to turn Gwyneth Paltrow into a Belle and Bunty fan…

Q. What do you love about working with brides?

It’s amazing to be involved with such a special day, and with the dress being such a big part of that day we love being able to produce a brides dream dress and make them feel super special. It’s a really happy time in peoples lives so its lovely to hear all the stories that surround the big day, see people’s enthusiasm and see how each bride is going to style their Belle & Bunty dress. Each and every bride has their own sense of style and how they want to look on their wedding day so its brilliant to see their take on styling up our designs.

Q. How do you find working together, do you each have different skills?

We have worked together for 10 years now, our Ready-to-Wear collection launched in 2003 and our Bridal in 2010, so we each have our set roles within the business to be the most productive, plus we are lucky to have a great team. Creatively we both work closely together and have very similar tastes, Alice bringing a more classic, elegant side and Hannah a more fashionable, feminine feel – the true “Belle’ and “Bunty” mix that defines our style.

Q. If you could design a Belle and Bunty dress for anyone who would it be?

[Alice] Kate Middleton, I love the fact that she is quintessentially British and so graciously feminine.

[Hannah] Gwyneth Paltrow is a natural beauty with a flirtacious edge, you know she’d wear a Belle & Bunty dress in such a great way!

Q. What’s your creative process, how do you find inspiration?

Inspiration can come from anywhere and anything! As a creative you never switch off from looking at all aspects of your life in a creative way. So it could be anything thats sets off an idea. Sometimes the best inspiration comes from non fashion arenas such as interiors, art, film and photography. We both have a habit of collecting things we find inspiring too, so our studio walls are covered with images, prints, fabric swatches and photos that we like and find interesting. People watching is also a fantastic source of inspiration – we could spend hours with a coffee watching what people are actually wearing on the street and how they put looks together.

Q. Who are your style icons?

[Alice] Miranda Kerr always looks so well put together, whether she’s dressed up or down she has a classic style and alwys looks great.

[Hannah] I love the laid back look that Clemence Poesy has. Anja Rubik also has a natural effortless style (it obviously helps that she is a gorgeous supermodel!!)

Q. When you’re not designing, how do you spend your time?

[Alice] Designing is actually a very small part of what we do day-to-day! Running a business encompasses so many things that we are constantly busy with all other aspects of the label and are very hands on with all our customers. Outside of work my latest fun hobby is static trapeze classes but my favourite thing is to spend time with my daughters Mae & Darcey.

[Hannah] Having your own label is a juggling act but it’s fun and interesting to constantly be working on something different, you have to switch hats depending on what part of the business you may be discussing but I like that! I’m also a big gym bunny [weird as it sounds] I really like to work out, plus it’s a great de-stresser!

If you haven’t already, do visit their website to see more of their beautiful bridal and ready-to-wear collections. Thanks to Hannah and Alice for the fab insight into the Belle and Bunty world!
