Debbie Carlisle 2015 Accessories Collection

When I look at brides in real weddings, sometimes it’s those unique little touches they add that really bring their bridal style to life. Whether it’s a bracelet, a simple hair accessory or a killer pair of shoes. If you’re at the stage of having the dress firmly in the ‘tick’ checklist box then you may be starting to think (and pin!) about your overall look and the finishing touches to your bridal style.

In which case, you’ll definitely be interested in the beautiful 2015 collection from designer Debbie Carlisle. What I love about this collection, is that Debbie has obviously really connected with brides as she offers two distinct styles within the collection whether you are a vintage-loving lady or a relaxed boho bride, there is something for everyone and many versatile ways of wearing each one to suit your style.

The ‘Limelight’ pieces are for those looking for glitz and glamour with their vintage inspired Old Hollywood and Art Deco styles but with an updated modern feel, perfect for adding a touch of sparkle. “All of the Limelight headpieces work well with my existing birdcage veil designs, and I’ve also added a new ‘mask veil’ made from the same soft fine French netting which pins at either side of the head and is a great way to wear a veil with a headpiece which can be easily removed later in the day without having to take off your headband or comb.”

‘Enchanted’ is inspired by the natural world, think woodland, florals and delicate vines, so if you’re after something a little less statement with a relaxed pretty feel there is plenty of choice. Each design is also available in both silver and a particular favourite of mine, a warm antique gold. “Most of the Enchanted designs are wired together with gold or silver plated wire and use intricately carved mother of pearl flowers which gives the pieces a more relaxed and bohemian feel. The silver versions use clear faceted Czech crystals mixed with tiny pale ivory freshwater pearls, while the gold versions use beautiful antique gold faceted Czech crystals which are partly glazed to create a delicate and warm golden shimmer.”

Debbie is also very conscious of offering brides the chance to personalise their style with the way they can wear her pieces. The wired designs are incredibly versatile, whether worn curving around your head like ivy, with an elegant up-do or along with a veil, there are endless ways to wear them and you can see lots of examples on her website here, perfect inspiration!

We’ve all been there… rifling through your wardrobe cursing at your existing shoe collection (and your other half) as you just can’t find the ‘perfect’ shoe for your outfit. Or perhaps like me, you have a wardrobe full of pretty shoes that you bought on a whim but are too uncomfortable/high/inappropriate that they’ll be staying firmly in their box with the label still on. Whoops.

Well stress no more, because whether it’s for a special occasion, a wedding or just to create the ‘perfect’ black court with a ‘twist’ you’ll want to head to Upper Street Shoes to create your very own custom designed pair of shoes.

I was kindly invited along to the beautiful Upper Street Townhouse, just a stones throw from Oxford Circus (danger, danger!) for my personal appointment with stylist Helena to design my own shoes, so please do excuse the many many photos in this post of them but I’m so in love with them I couldn’t stop snapping!

As you take a look around the Upper Street townhouse boutique at the myriad styles, fabrics and colours available at first it’s a little overwhelming, suddenly kid and sweet shop come to mind because each element of the shoe can be customised to your requirements and personal tastes. But where to start!

Firstly you select the style of the shoe, and then then the design elements such as the heel height and shape, details such as straps or embellishments, and of course fabrics and colours and then the little touches like the insole. It’s the little details that make these even more special, such as the inscribing that can be printed on the insole – whether it’s a wedding date or a message to your bridesmaids or just a quote to get you inspired by wearing them it’s such a sweet touch. For me the shoes are definitely ‘going out’ shoes so I went with ‘Time to drink champagne & dance on the tables”… how predictable!

I was stood there with neon pink, leopard print, glitter fabrics and a lot of metallics and my eyes were like a Magpie’s, but luckily with Helena’s patient advice I finally decided upon a fairly classic pair of shoes that I knew I’d get a lot of wear out of as let’s be honest, it’s not everyday you get to make your own custom shoes!

As someone who isn’t particularly stable in heels, I chose my style of shoe to ensure that as well as looking great they’d be comfortable too. My shoe style was an open back pointed court with t-bar strap and toe detail and 3″ mid-height stiletto. I chose the luxurious black pony skin for the fabric of the main shoe and to indulge my love of rose gold, accented this in the leather pointed toe, side detail and strap. I had to be reigned in at adding a neon pink heel…

They are of course a special or luxury item, rather than an every-day (unless of course that’s your thing) which I think makes them perfect for bridal market, whether it’s the bride, bridesmaids or even the Mother of the Bride and Upper Street have a special Bridal service.

It would be SO much fun to invite your girls along with you to your session to help you design the shoes, and such a great investment to have the ‘perfect’ pair of shoes for not just your wedding day but for many years on. You can browse bridal shoe inspiration in the gallery, as they offer flats (perfect for the dance floor), shoes with hearts on the heel for something a little romantic and even a blue insole for your ‘something blue’. Amazing!

After my appointment, the shoes took about a month to arrive to my door and when they did they were presented beautifully all wrapped up in tissue with shoe duster bags to protect them, and of course all tied up with a pretty pink bow! If you’re a shoe-loving lady, (or even know one that is!) then customising your own pair of shoes is just the ultimate luxury and I for one don’t think this will be my only pair…
