Brides The Show October 2014 Whilst my summer has gone by in a blur of weddings, I realise that with Autumn fast approaching [nooo!], there will have been the inevitable romance of summer proposals meaning lots of newly engaged couples and London Brides to be, which is all VERY exciting indeed!

So for anyone just engaged, who may be planning their wedding [and definitely for those that have even yet to start!] you’ll want to pay a visit to the upcoming Brides The Show which is back in October from Friday the 3rd to Sunday the 5th and the best bit? INSPIRATION

I think attending a bridal show is part of the planning process, along with spending hours pouring over wedding blogs and folding down pages of bridal publications. It’s part of the fun, the experience and I know I always leave with a head spinning of creative ideas, a bag full of goodies and so many amazing supplier contacts. It’s also a very good excuse to get your girls or family involved and make a weekend of it, well it would be rude not to right? If you are planning on visiting keep an eye out on the blog as I’ll be posting a London Bride guide of some of my favourite things you can get up to whilst visiting the show!

As you’d expect, Brides The Show certainly gives the little black book a run for it’s money with it’s exhibitor list. You’ll be able to meet, chat with and see in person some of the most talented, creative and well-regarded players in the wedding industry with something for everyone and in all areas of your wedding planning both the pretty, and the practical [my sensible wedding planner head on there!]. Lots of London Bride favourites will be there on the day and I’ll be sharing with you some must-visit picks later on!

EXPERIENCE

Brides The Show stands out for me as it offers some really fun experiences for visitors as well as a wealth of inspiration. You can book a fabulous personalised one-on-one bridal make-up lesson with a Bobbi Brown artist, have a cream tea with your Mum or family in the refreshing Tea Garden, get creative in the Imagination Room with some fun and useful live DIY workshops, pick up lots of planning tips from experts and the Editorial team at Brides during their On The Sofa sessions and of course celebrate with a glass of something from the Sommelier’s Table or Champagne Bar, which in my book is mandatory! Amongst all this, the show will provide beautiful inspiration for all areas of your wedding planning…

STYLE

And I couldn’t not mention my favourite element of the show… The Catwalk of course! There are four catwalk shows throughout the day [so you can't miss it] and the theme for the upcoming show is ‘English Rose’ which no doubt means there will be an abundance of feminine, romance and British style – brought together by Bride’s magazine fashion director, Bryony Toogood. It’s also a great chance to see the first look at international bridal designers latest collections so it’s a must for the stylish bride!

V&A Wedding Dress Exhibition London

Today I wanted to get around to finally sharing the fantastic V&A Wedding Dress Exhibition with you AND as an added bonus there’s a little bit of me on screen too [yikes].

The exhibition at the V&A, one of the most inspiring cultural spots in London, began earlier this year and will run through to March 2015 and is a fascinating and unique insight into the history of wedding dresses from 1775 through to current day.

As well as being able to see dresses from centuries ago, the exhibition highlights the history behind the dresses, and very interestingly how the economic and cultures of the time influenced the fashion.

In the exhibition there are over 80 wedding dresses by leading designers such as Ian Stuart, Jenny Packham, Vera Wang, Bruce Oldfield as well as millinerry from Philip Treacy and Stephen Jones.

that are historic, romantic and extravagant – revealing insights into the wearers and their circumstances. There are a number of celebrity dresses too including the infamous purple Vivienne Westwood dress worn by Dita Von Teese when she married Marilyn Manson and of course, Kate Moss and Jamie Hince’s stunning wedding day outfits from their day back in 2011 which was stunning to see up close, see some of my images below – the detail on her John Galliano designed dress was just stunning.

Anyone with an interest in fashion [or of course weddings] will be fascinated to see in one collection the change in bridal trends from historical gold embroidered dresses, to silk bias cut gowns of the 40s to the practical ‘DIY’ gowns [one made from curtains!] that emerged during the Second World War and how society and economic times depicted these.

Here are a few looks at the exhibition, though the gowns really are worth seeing up close in person. I seem to, as always, be drawn to sparkle, bows and glamour…

When I was invited to the press event for the exhibition I was interviewed by a few media channels, including DW, for their piece on the V&A wedding dress exhibition which is broadcast internationally as part of their popular lifestyle channel Euromaxx. I try not to think how many 1000′s of people around the world may have seen my mug, scary thought.

So if you click on the image below it will take you to watch the video, you can see my little bit around 03:00 minutes in [though do watch the interview with Edwina Ehrman, the curator for her fascinating insight]. Having worked in TV and film previously I should add that I am very much used to being behind the camera so please excuse my pretty awful interview ability. I appear not to be able to speak English, but hopefully you get the gist of what I mean?!

DW TV - London Bride Interview Huge thanks to Kate Halfpenny for letting us loose in her beautiful wedding dress boutique and to her assistant Izie who was incredibly patient with us!

The V&A is open daily 10:00 – 17:45 and late nights until 22:00 on Friday. Tickets are £12 [concessions available].

To book tickets to the show or for further information on the exhibition please visit the V&A website here.
