V&A Wedding Dress Exhibition London

Today I wanted to get around to finally sharing the fantastic V&A Wedding Dress Exhibition with you AND as an added bonus there’s a little bit of me on screen too [yikes].

The exhibition at the V&A, one of the most inspiring cultural spots in London, began earlier this year and will run through to March 2015 and is a fascinating and unique insight into the history of wedding dresses from 1775 through to current day.

As well as being able to see dresses from centuries ago, the exhibition highlights the history behind the dresses, and very interestingly how the economic and cultures of the time influenced the fashion.

In the exhibition there are over 80 wedding dresses by leading designers such as Ian Stuart, Jenny Packham, Vera Wang, Bruce Oldfield as well as millinerry from Philip Treacy and Stephen Jones.

that are historic, romantic and extravagant – revealing insights into the wearers and their circumstances. There are a number of celebrity dresses too including the infamous purple Vivienne Westwood dress worn by Dita Von Teese when she married Marilyn Manson and of course, Kate Moss and Jamie Hince’s stunning wedding day outfits from their day back in 2011 which was stunning to see up close, see some of my images below – the detail on her John Galliano designed dress was just stunning.

Anyone with an interest in fashion [or of course weddings] will be fascinated to see in one collection the change in bridal trends from historical gold embroidered dresses, to silk bias cut gowns of the 40s to the practical ‘DIY’ gowns [one made from curtains!] that emerged during the Second World War and how society and economic times depicted these.

Here are a few looks at the exhibition, though the gowns really are worth seeing up close in person. I seem to, as always, be drawn to sparkle, bows and glamour…

When I was invited to the press event for the exhibition I was interviewed by a few media channels, including DW, for their piece on the V&A wedding dress exhibition which is broadcast internationally as part of their popular lifestyle channel Euromaxx. I try not to think how many 1000′s of people around the world may have seen my mug, scary thought.

So if you click on the image below it will take you to watch the video, you can see my little bit around 03:00 minutes in [though do watch the interview with Edwina Ehrman, the curator for her fascinating insight]. Having worked in TV and film previously I should add that I am very much used to being behind the camera so please excuse my pretty awful interview ability. I appear not to be able to speak English, but hopefully you get the gist of what I mean?!

DW TV - London Bride Interview Huge thanks to Kate Halfpenny for letting us loose in her beautiful wedding dress boutique and to her assistant Izie who was incredibly patient with us!

The V&A is open daily 10:00 – 17:45 and late nights until 22:00 on Friday. Tickets are £12 [concessions available].

To book tickets to the show or for further information on the exhibition please visit the V&A website here.

Elizabeth Stuart Bridal – The Enchantment of the Seasons Fall 2014 Collection

Behind The Scenes at Elizabeth Stuart SS14 Show - Moonflower

Today, I have never been so pleased to be sat at my desk. The last week has been a hectic blur of lace, fizz and black cabs as I embarked on a week of client catch ups, supplier meetings, networking, bridal showcases, wedding fairs – oh and if you follow me on instagram, you’ll see I squeezed in a fleeting but magical stay at A Room For London (nothing to do with weddings, but quite possibly the most wonderful night in London I’ve ever had).

I can now verify that those attending London Fashion Week are genuinely entitled to moan about the hectic schedules of the days with back to back shows and press events because I’ve just been a part of that whirlwind these last few days as bridal fever swept over London as many of the bridal designers big and small, luxury and boutique showcase and unveil their new collections to the bridal world and us bloggers are lucky enough to be invited for a seat on the front row.

First up, I’m excited to share with you the forthcoming Fall 2014 new collection ‘The Enchanment of The Seasons’ from British designer Elizabeth Stuart Bridal. I’ve featured Elizabeth Stuart designs before as I love how they encapsulate the modern femininity of a bride. Her designs are glamorous, with intricate detailing and fantastic silhouettes and it was a pleasure to attend the first independent runway show unveiling the designs.

As well as the dresses being very much up my street, the show itself was a fantastic event as it was in support of Cancer Research UK and was planned and styled by fellow wedding planner and blogger, the fabulous Penelope Cullen of Love Scarlett and was most definitely a fun way to enjoy taking in the atmosphere and the designs.

The exquisite silk organza and tulle fabrics create a modern and soft silhouette, with stunning scalloped lace highlighting the beautiful designs of the gowns. By incorporating delicate laser cut flowers to embody the blooms of springtime, and the delicate nudes and pink silks to represent the changing of the leaves, the fabrics adorn and bring to light the beauty of a woman’s feminine curves.

And here is your first look…can we all take a minute to just say a big hello to ‘Moonflower’ below, this is definitely the most chic, stylish yet adorably feminine wedding design I’ve seen in a long time with the cropped boxy overlapping top and full flowing skirt (but yes, a flat stomach may well be required).

Elizabeth Stuart has harmonized modern, elegant designs with the most luxurious fabrics and quality, to ensure that any bride radiates a glow from within on her most unforgettable and magical of days.

Elizabeth Stuart is very proud and excited to make this transition with Cancer Research UK, by designing ‘Vines of Hope and Love’ wedding favour pins which represent the joining of two people in love. These pins will allow the happy couple to commemorate their special day, whilst celebrating a friend or family member surviving cancer, or to remember someone close to them. This event will serve as a platform to celebrate this wonderful partnership and create awareness.

There was a great team involved in the event, and I have to say I was lucky enough to receive a fabulous goodie bag so thank you to everyone involved, it was a pleasure to attend!
