Welcome to the week of luuuuurve! Well whilst I may be a wedding blog, the big ‘Valentine’s Day’ is even too much for me sometimes. So, in order to bring balance to the world [or this blog, at least], you won’t find any red, frilly, heart or sweeter than sweet paraphernalia that is abundant at this time of year, here today.
I thought this shoot by the fabulous Lee at Robbins Photographic goes to show that love isn’t always about perfume, expensive meals and lingerie. Oh no, this is modern love right here. The side streets of Hackney Wick in East London are the graphic and urban backdrop for this ridiculously gorgeous couple, Claire and David for their engagement shoot. I often see couples visually cringe at the idea of an engagement shoot or even their own wedding with the belief it has to be all soppy, and commercial and…’weddingy’. However, I think these two walking around hand in hand in the sunshine goes to show that this really doesn’t have to be the case.
David is a Product Development Engineer for Jaguar Landrover and I’m a Colour Consultant for Farrow & Ball – We met whilst at university in Sheffield, at the university Indie Club night ´Fuzz Club´ (this isn´t strictly true, David first ´met´ me on Myspace through a friend, as he embarrassingly pointed out during his wedding speech). That was 6 years ago and whilst we still have the odd indie disco in our kitchen we are all grown up and live together with our sausage dog Earl Grey.
We chose Lee as our photographer as although we really wanted to be married neither of us have ever been sold on the idea of a ´weddingy´ wedding. Lee´s photographs played a huge part in convincing us that we could have the version of the wedding we wanted without following the conventional wedding path. With Lee living in Brighton, us living in the Midlands and the wedding being in Sheffield we decided it was a good idea to have an engagement shoot so we could meet up and get comfortable with having our photograph taken. I would really recommend doing this as it makes the wedding day so much less stressful.
We chose Hackney Wick as the location as we discovered via Instagram that Lee and myself had a mutual appreciation for the area, I am so glad we decided to shoot there the photographs are incredible. Lee is a total super star and we are blown away by his talent.
Thanks and congratulations to David and Claire [who also tied the knot in a very stylish way] and to Lee for letting us share the shoot on the blog!
