Fashion forward couple Anna and Greg had a very small, intimate wedding in Autumn with their ceremony at Islington Town Hall followed by a private party the next day.
This couple chose to spread their celebrations over three days, with family over from Toronto they had a simple ceremony, followed by a party and then a family brunch. Who says a wedding day has to just be one day!? They kept the planning very low key and simple as they didn’t want a huge fuss, and it’s great to see such a modern minimalist bride, with bride Anna in an Acne dress.
10TH ANNIVERSARY PROPOSAL
We met at a University party in Toronto during out first year at Uni. We were both at different schools, we were 18. We moved to London at 26 and have been living here since. We got engaged on our 10th anniversary. Which happens to be on Valentine’s Day, Feb 14. Greg surprised me with a trip to Paris and over breakfast in Luxemburg Gardens (take away croissant and coffee, our ritual in Paris) he proposed. It was very emotional and amazing. And cold! After we went to Les Deux Magots for champagne to celebrate. Then we spent the whole day in Paris celebrating. We got married 6 months later in London.
TORONTO TO LONDON
We wanted a very intimate feel wedding. Our immediate family came from Toronto and we had a very small ceremony at Islington Town Hall on the 19th of September, we got married in the morning. Then we were taking photos and then we went to our house for champagne, cheese & nibbles. We then took cabs to Sushi Samba for an early dinner. Then everyone went their ways and Greg and I had one more sneaky cocktail in a tucked away bar in the city.
The couple then had a party the next day with friends and family at Climpson’s Arch with Prosecco, a live funk band, dinner and the best espresso martini before heading to karaoke! Two days later we were off on our Honeymoon!
They had a short ceremony at Islington Town Hall without any readings and with the music they chose was Rolling Stones ‘She Smiled Sweetly’ and for the exit song it was Beatles “All my Loving”. Bride Anna picked up some simple white flowers that morning and tied them with string and they had guests shower them with petals as they came out as husband and wife!
Anna looked super cool in her Acne Studios dress which she purchased in the HQ store in Copenhagen who kindly tracked down her size and delivered it to her – amazing customer service! She teamed the modern minimalist dress with comfortable Rupert Sanderson heels, in a striking shade of blue.
I love fashion and as we didn’t want any traditional wedding type stuff, I jut wanted a dress that I loved from a designer I loved and something I could wear again! So whilst I tried on lovely white dresses at Dior & Armani and Carven and Alice and Olivia, I stumbled on my perfect dress at the Acne HQ in Copenhagen, which was just a weekend trip with Greg and two of our friends.
Greg hates shopping so he skipped on Acne, which was perfect as thats when I saw the amazing cream slip dress which was IT when I tried it on and I just knew right away it was the one. It’s my style, I love Acne and it worked perfectly with my body. I wore that dress three times now (2 wedding days and one in Toronto as well when we had our wedding drinks for friends there as well).
I knew I wanted blue shoes, and initially I wanted cool boots or really embellished crazy shoes, but that didn’t really flow well with the dress, so again I wandered into Rupert Sanderson with my friend one afternoon in Mayfair on our lunch break, and there we had it, amazing blue toned shoes and they were on sale too…it was meant to be!
Greg got his suit made, he knew what he was after, he wanted ta navy suit and he sent off his measurements and got it made in Hong Kong. It was a Naples style cut. The bow tie added an element of rock n roll same with the boots.
Heather Shuker from Eclection Photography was super lovely and we had a meeting with her before the wedding and we had Heather with us for about 2 hours, during the ceremony and then after for me & Greg photos. She really got what we wanted as again we didn’t want anything ‘wedding’ but still wanted lovely photos which were us, and for us it was special as the photos were taken around Canonbury/Islington which is essentially our area in London and we connect with that part of London.
I think it’s important to remember that your wedding day is YOUR wedding day and whilst it’s stressful at times to plan and such, and everyone wants to give their two cents, just breathe and go with it and enjoy the time with your special other half and loved ones…and do what makes YOU comfortable. For us it was spread over 3 days which was perfect and I wouldn’t have done it any other way. It was very special indeed and it was amazing to have a family day and then friends day with family and then family again…it was just one big awesome party.
Thanks to Heather at Eclection Photography and to Anna and Greg for sharing their lovely laid back London wedding!
