London Bride Loves – Stationery by Dottypink Designs

Dottypink Designs Cute Wedding Stationery

I haven’t featured much paper pretty on here lately, and now there are now so many options out there for brides in terms of stationery you are quite frankly spoilt for choice! From the beautiful to the traditional to the fun to the romantic – there is something to suit every budget and style and the fabulous Dottypink Designs offer all of the above!

I’m a big fan of using nice bold type and colours on invitations as I think they make a welcome change to the scripted ivory cards that tend to get slipped through the postboxes these days. For her collections I like how Amy who runs Dottypink Designs, combines pretty fonts with some simple graphic illustrations to make for sweet and modern stationery and I love seeing how she translates bespoke briefs too which are always so unique. Based in North Yorkshire Amy having graduated with a design degree and since getting married herself she has enjoyed expanding to create pretty paper pieces for other brides!

Here are some examples of her lovely designs and I also put a few questions to Amy to tell us more about her work…

Q – How did you start out in wedding stationery
I have been a graphic designer for 5 years since I graduated with a graphic design degree. When I got engaged in 2009 I knew I wanted to design our wedding stationery, and after receiving such amazing comments from our guests I then got asked to design stationery for family and friends too. I really enjoyed it and decided to make a go of it within the wedding industry which has so far gone very well, with my work most recently reaching the finals of the Wedding Ideas Awards 2013.
Q – What’s the most fun brief you’ve worked on?
In terms of stationery designs, as well as having an ‘Off the Peg’ collection, I also design bespoke stationery too and I get some really lovely requests. A recent favourite has been an outdoor, teepee and woodland animal style design with lots of lovely typography. I really enjoy working on all the stationery but bespoke designs really excite me and challenge me to come up with unique and personal ideas perfect for each couple!
Q – What’s your most popular product or design?
All couples are different and have their own ideas for their big day so they do tend to choose different designs from the Off the Peg collection, but the most popular design of 2012 seems to be the Village Fete stationery. I’ve been asked to customise it in lots of colour combinations and I have to say I think it works really well in all of them. I’ll have to wait and see which design is the most popular this year as I’ve just recently added some new designs to my collection.
Q – What trends in stationery will we see from you in 2013?
I’m a big fan of colour, paper and typography, but I also love illustrating and I’ve added a couple of illustrated items already to my collection. I like to keep the card stock quite straight forward and let the designs do the talking, which is why my invitations are postcard sized for simplicity and ease of postage, and the eco aspect is really important to me so finding new ways to do my bit for the environment is something I will be researching more into this year. In terms of the designs, I just love developing ideas and playing with colour palettes, paper textures and type so I would expect more of that in my collection, with perhaps some more cute illustrated items as well.
