Tola and Kingsley had a city chic wedding in London at The Berkeley Hotel followed by a second colourful Nigerian wedding! Tola wore a stunning Justin Alexander dress with beautiful back detail perfectly suited to their elegant celebrations.
Kingsley and I were introduced through my best friend who was dating Kingsley’s brother at the time, she thought we were quite similar and could see us together. I laughed it off but after he asked for my number, that eventually lead to hours on the phone talking about everything and anything, a first date at Pizza Express in Hampstead and 6 amazing years together, the rest is history!
We we’re engaged for just under 2 years, Kingsley was originally due to propose on New Year’s Eve 2013, however changed his mind just in case I suspected anything (I’m the hardest person to surprise by the way). Due to my love of flowers he proposed at the Clos Maggiore restaurant which has a flower-filled conservatory. He wrote the words ‘will you marry me?’ on my dessert plate, when it arrived I was convinced it was for another table and was going to call the waiter back! Its only when I looked at Kingsley I knew it was meant for me, I started crying before he could read me a poem by Mark Twain and eventually popped the question.
Such a sweet proposal story and a beautiful setting! Good job she didn’t send the plate back…
English + Nigerian Wedding
With a wedding of two parts, an English wedding in London in August followed by a Nigerian wedding, they decided on an elegant city chic day for their London celebrations.
Looking at endless different venues, manor house, stately homes, we kept on returning to the idea of a chic and elegant city wedding. We’ve both lived in London all our lives and wanted an intimate affair both of our families could be apart of. The overall concept was classic and simple, as Nigerians we also had a separate Nigerian wedding, which was typically large (350 people) and colorful! We wanted a more understated and smaller affair for our English wedding.
JUSTIN ALEXANDER DRESS HUNT
I love Tola’s sophisticated and elegant style in the beautifully fitted fishtail silhouette with beaded neckline and the incredible back detail. Despite falling in love with it, the actual search for a stockist was not so easy.
Searching for a dress was the most stressful and best part of all the planning. I fell in love with a Justin Alexander Signature dress [Style 9735] after only trying on 3 dresses. But it had everything I wanted in a dress, it was elegant and simple with an amazing back. It was something different and I liked that it was unique. As it was a dress from a previous collection, the only shop left that stocked it in the UK was The Courtyard Bridal Boutique, in Kettering. I can’t thank the staff enough, they ensured it fit like a glove in the end, but I won’t miss the train journeys up there from London!

THE BERKELEY HOTEL
For the reception we went with The Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge, for their beautiful and intimate ballroom, which was ideal for our headcount, also the venue is stunning and has a beautiful cobbled mews at its rear to which we took a lot of pictures. The staff were exceptional in helping us coordinate our day from the beginning to the end, with no detail un-missed. They said ‘yes’ to just about everything and nothing was of any trouble, which every bride and groom want to hear!
They enjoyed a 3 course European meal and a Nigerian buffet in the evening for everyone to reflect both cultures. They also had a cute ice-cream trike as a traditional English touch which added a fun element to the evening reception.
Our flowers were by Jay Ravi – an amazing Asian florist, who really brought my ideas to life, muted tones and soft pastels.
Photography by Dasha Caffrey, a recommendation from my eldest brother, who went to school with Dasha’s husband. We fell in love with her work, very natural, bright and full of life, which is what we wanted to reflect in our pictures too.
Kingsley and I slipped away during the reception, just to ensure we took time to process and enjoy every moment of our day. It really does go so quickly, so cherish some time together to look back on the great day you’ve planned together.
Once again what a lovely write up and wise words. Thank you Tola and Kingsley for sharing your gorgeous day and to Dasha for her beautiful work.
