There’s no denying that we’ve all gone a bit green fingered lately and bringing more of the outdoors into our lives. As Pantone announced their 2017 colour of the year is ‘Greenery’ it is definitely carrying through to weddings, and this beautiful Autumn wedding beautifully styled with green details showcases why.
Greenery works perfectly for weddings as Pantone explains, “Greenery is nature’s neutral. The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world.”
The greens in all their shades are so cohesive and complimentary to the more wood-styled venues, and the couple’s style, and Melissa’s bouquet by The Flower Bird is one of my favourites I think in all it’s Autumn, green, wild foliage glory, just stunning!
It’s so great to see the fabulous Isere skirt from Charlie Brear on a bride and it looks like it was made for bride Melissa and this wedding day. Can you imagine how fun it is shimmying around in that!? Once again, fabulous groom inspiration in this real wedding from a very well dressed groom Ben who sourced all his outfit in London – a true London Groom!
I really like how this wedding shows how you can style your day simply through colours, tones, fashion and details. The venues are both quite atmospheric with their wood decorated spaces which work so well with the natural greens chosen by the couple. I often meet couples who are worried their venue is too dark or too detailed, but this shows you can really inject a lot of style from details from the flowers, shoes, suits, cake and stationery and green is perfect for that.
I have to warn you this is a long image post, because I found it so difficult to edit (captured so well by Miss Gen) as it is all just so beautiful and let’s face it, a ridiculously gorgeous and stylish couple radiating joy. I hope whether you’re a new reader or a long-term London Bride fan, you enjoy this wedding!
We were friends for years however the timing was always wrong. We both finally became single and the rest is history! 5 years later on a trip to Thailand, Ben proposed during the most beautiful hillside sunset on the island of Koh Tao. We decided that we wanted a longer engagement to enjoy the copious amounts of Champagne and celebration, plus to save a bit of money for our dream wedding.
The venue was really important as it se the tone for the whole day. Once we chose it, all of the details and style came together really nicely. The goal was to just have a really big and fun party so good food and music were a must!
Being in East London meant that we could incorporate some beautifully historic and iconic venues and add our touch of modern and considered design. Our colours were wild greenery with touches of white and gold. Both venues were stunning so needed very little dressing. With our florist’s beautiful creations, both venues looked perfect.
CHARLIE BREAR BRIDE
Going into wedding dress shopping, I knew I wanted something classic but with a bit of an interesting twist on it. After visiting 3 different shops and trying on lots of dresses, I found the Isere skirt and Torum dress from Charlie Brear – it was the perfect outfit and I couldn’t have asked for a better shopping experience with the ladies at Charlie Brear. My shoes were made by a good friend of mine which meant I was able to work with her to design my green velvet heels with pearl detail. Plus with the help of the wonderful Lou of Luna Bea, I found some beautiful hair clips which complimented the whole look perfectly.
The Flower Bird
The Flower Bird was recommended to us by our cake designer, Clare from Little Bear Cakery. After meeting Sarah, we knew she had to be our florist. Sarah made the whole experience really wonderful and stress-free. We went to the flower market together which really helped to get an idea of her vision and style. We couldn’t have asked for more beautiful arrangements, they were stunning!
TOWN HALL HOTEL CEREMONY
We hadn’t actually given the ceremony a huge amount of thought (bad – I know!) however it turned out to be our favourite part of the day. We had a civil ceremony at the Town Hall Hotel and asked a very close friend and Ben’s father to choose readings. We wanted the readings to be a surprise and from the heart. They were absolutely perfect and made for a beautiful moment during the ceremony. Being surrounded by everyone we love, we’ll never forget it.
PHOTOGRAPHY BY MISS GEN
We chose Genevieve from Miss Gen for her style as she creates really beautiful, reportage photography. Neither of us are keen on having our photos taken so her style suited us perfectly. She captured the day so beautifully and we’ve received so many compliments on our photos. Overall we are super happy and are blown away by the volume of such lovely images. I’m not sure I could pick one favourite photo, but the candid group photo outside of Town Hall where Ben and I are ready for the photo and the rest of our wedding guests are on the move.
Our first dance was to Postcards from Italy by Beirut. It’s Melissa’s favourite song and was really beautiful to dance to.
We had a string trio, Leos Strings for our wedding ceremony and reception. They added to the elegance of the Town Hall Hotel and a classical touch to the day. The Wedding Smashers DJ played some amazing party tunes into the early hours!
The venue is really important. It sets the tone for everything and has to feel right. We spent months searching for the right places but it paid off. Spreadsheets are also your friend! Also try to take it in, our friends recommended we step away from the craziness and have a moment to ourselves. It was some of the best advice we got.
Huge thanks to Melissa and Ben for sharing their beautiful day with us, and to the very talented Miss Gen for the amazing photography!
