Libby and Ben had a beautifully elegant September wedding. The bride wore a Jenny Packham dress and bridesmaids in pink by Belle & Bunty with florals by The Flower Appreciation Society against the stunning backdrop of Home House, London.
For any brides planning an elegant London wedding, then this should be all the inspiration you need! Libby and Ben were married in September last year, and it encompasses everything a sophisticated London wedding is about.
From the meaningful Church ceremony to a ride in a white London cab, to the relaxed but grand setting of Home House it was a picture perfect day captured by Caught The Light.
Libby’s style is sophisticated and feminine in her Georgia by Jenny Packham dress, and Ben looks smart and relaxed in his beautiful blue suit. I love that you can still see little pieces of confetti in Libby’s hair throughout the day, the perfect ‘just married’ memento!
I love the slightly undone flowers by The Flower Appreciation Society against the more decadent backdrop of the venue, and the little details in their stationery, the delicious looking naked cake, to the canapés (those mini fish and chips!!) were well thought-through and all tied in beautifully to the day.
Seven Year Hitch
Ben and I were engaged for almost exactly a year and we were married after just over seven years together. It was on my birthday that Ben proposed the year before. We celebrated with a trip to Gray’s Antiques to look at engagement rings and afternoon cocktails at 69 Colebrooke Row. (This is so spooky as that’s exactly what myself and my fiancé did!)
We settled on a date in September as it’s the month we’re both born and the month we got engaged. I was just beginning to despair when searching for a London venue that felt special and perfect for us, when I stumbled upon the old school glamour of Home House on Portman Square. We had 80 guests which was the perfect size for us, with a focus on good food and music.
GEORGIA BY JENNY PACKHAM
I work in fashion and have always loved Jenny Packham dresses, so made at appointment at the brand’s Elizabeth Street boutique, settling on the ‘Georgia’ dress because it felt effortless, light to wear and perfect for the time of year.
I have my hair cut and coloured at The Chapel, so it felt like a natural step to have my wedding hair done there. I had one trial with Dani who just understood what I wanted straight away, and incorporated my Jenny Packham hairslides into my updo beautifully. When I arrived on the morning of the wedding with my bridesmaids, The Chapel team had Prosecco, strawberries and chocolate truffles waiting for us!
Libby’s bridesmaids were pretty in pink with dresses from designers Belle & Bunty and delicate shoes from Clarks. Ben wore a lovely blue suit teamed with a tie from Reiss and shoes from Crockett and Jones. Libby looked radiant in make-up applied by herself, but had fluttery lash extensions by Lady Lash.
HOME FROM HOME
I was lucky enough to get ready at home just around the corner from the church and we were so fortunate to have the beautiful sunny September day that we hoped for after a week of near continuous rain! I knew right from the beginning that getting ready in unfamiliar surroundings would have added to my nerves, and I’m so happy that I stuck to my guns – it was so special and relaxing to get ready at the flat that Ben and I have made our home.
There were so many parts of the day that were our favourites. The service in the light-filled Highbury Christ Church was so special yet at the same time felt relaxed, and we were totally focused on each other the whole way through. I was so wobbly and nervous before walking down the aisle, having eyes only for Ben definitely helped. On the way to Home House, our wedding taxi followed behind the old route master filled with our guests, and people waved and cheered at us which was so wonderful!
The Flower Appreciation Society’s natural and undone approach worked so beautifully in contrast to the House’s 18th century grandeur and when I first saw the Eating Room laid out ready for our wedding breakfast it took my breath away. I feel so privileged to have worked with so many wonderful and dedicated suppliers along the way.
Alice Markes and her events team were an absolute dream to work with, and the food and cocktails were exactly what we wanted (the chorizo canapés were literally the major talking point of the reception).
Ben and I wanted our day to be elegant and relaxed, focused around our loved ones, great food, great drink and great music – at which our DJs Wedding Smashers absolutely excelled!
Our photographer Chloe of Caught the Light captured everything perfectly and was so lovely to have around on the day. Everyone we dealt with in planning and on the day itself was so professional – they really made the day for us.
In the run up to our wedding, a very wise and newly wed friend told me to really cherish the planning even when it felt stressful, as once everything was over you’d look back on the whole experience fondly – I’ve definitely found that to be true. I also bought a little notebook to write down everything in the days after the wedding, as I wanted to remember even the smallest things. What an excellent tip from bride Libby!
Huge thanks to Libby and Ben for sharing their beautiful elegant day and to Chloe at Caught The Light for her magical photography.
