With their love affair with London, Erika and Steve took to the streets for a stylish sunrise London engagement shoot and well, the results were rather magical…

London Sunrise Engagement Shoot | Photography by Miss Gen

Isn’t the dream wondering about this city, in love with no-one else around with the romance of a sunrise? Well this couple made that dream happen by taking to the streets in the very early hours with their fabulous photographer Miss Gen for a London engagement shoot whilst the rest of the city was still sleeping making for some absolutely magical moments.

The images make me fall in love with this city all over again, with the backdrop of Big Ben, Southbank, the Millennium bridge and St Paul’s, without the distractions of commuters, tourists or rush hour traffic – this couple were just in London and in love.

Stylish Autumnal London Highbury Engagement Shoot

AISLE STYLE, Groom, Engagements

Photography by Sarah Gawler

A beautiful Autumnal relaxed engagement shoot in Highbury by photographer Sarah Gawler for Groom Style Consultant, Sammy Aki and her fiancé Anaël.

Whilst I don’t tend to feature engagement shoots all that often, from time to time some just stand-out to me, and I think it’s actually great to show readers and couples that these shoots can be a really fun, special and useful part of the engagement and wedding planning.

This shoot by the very talented Sarah Gawler, captures couple Sammy and Anaël looking super relaxed around their home in Highbury. The beauty of a pre-wedding or engagement shoot is that it’s just natural beautiful photographs of the two of you. As Sammy mentions below in her story, nothing fussy just spending time together perhaps doing whatever you both enjoy and is actually a really fun thing to do amongst all the stress of the planning and wedmin!

It’s also a great way of getting to spend time with your photographer and for them to get to know you and of course helps ease the pressure of the photographs for the wedding day itself if you are a little camera shy!

Sammy and Anaël recently celebrated a traditional Ghanian London wedding and if you wondered why these guys are exceptionally well-dressed, that’s because Sammy is in fact a stylist at Sammy Aki, a groom style consultancy. So if you think your man may need a helping hand with his groom style, I highly recommend you get in touch with her!

A Winter’s Tale – A London Engagement Shoot in Islington

Engagements

london-winter-engagement-sarah-gawler_0007

I honestly can’t quite believe we are heading into Spring and the wintry months are almost behind us, with a few daffodils here and a peek of blossom there it’s certainly in the air. Almost. It’s still crisp and breezy so whilst we’re not quite there just yet, let’s go back to a magical dusky afternoon’s winter engagement shoot with twinkling lights and a twinkling dress with this lovely London couple Jen and Aaron who wondered the pretty streets of Islington near their home with photographer Sarah Gawler.

A few words from Jen and Aaron’s amazing photographer, Sarah Gawler: “A few days before Christmas I met with Jen and Aaron at their gorgeous London home. We had a chat over some tea and then headed out to take their big, big dogs for a walk around the neighbourhood. It was a lightly overcast, blustery day and as the daylight faded we ventured out again for an evening stroll around some of Islington’s pretty shopping lanes. I couldn’t imagine an afternoon better spent and in sweeter company.”

London Engagement Shoot by Sarah Gawler - London Bride

Whilst I don’t feature them all that often, I still really enjoy showcasing London engagement shoots from time to time – they are still a joy to see a couple in love, captured by stunning photography and with the beautiful backdrops that London has to offer. This couple, Sarah and Gareth had a sweet day reminiscing about the early days of their relationship whilst wondering around some gorgeous spots by the river. Makes you forget just how wonderful it is to live in this city…

Sarah & Gareth are both originally from Wales but met whilst working at Ernst & Young in London. They are planning a sumptuous wedding in Wales from afar as they now live and work in Singapore. As they live abroad and are getting married in Wales they wanted to capture something of their relationship in London. So, with their photographer Sarah Gawler, they set about walking around their old haunts in Butlers Wharf and they reminisced about how they first got together (they were set up by her manager!).

They even went to The Harpy, an Edwardian customs and excise pontoon now used as a location house. Later in the day they headed into Greenwich – another part of London that they have fond memories of together. Soon after arriving the heavens opened, so they had to take shelter in the cloisters of The Queen’s House. The weather didn’t bother them, they were happily dancing about and having fun together.

Their photographer Sarah Gawler says, “We all have our own personal & sentimental maps of places we’ve spent time in so it’s such a privilege that in photographing a couple’s story like this you get to see what a place means to them too. Thank you Sarah & Gareth for sharing your stories with me, it was a most memorable afternoon in the sun and the rain ;)”.

Wishing the best of happiness for their wedding day and thanks to the very talented Sarah Gawler for sharing her beautiful work.

Engagements

Well well well, it’s the big V day today! I trust the romantics amongst you are doing something like taking the day off work, cooking up a lazy but delicious indulgent brunch followed by a romantic stroll in a park all wrapped up warm and perhaps an evening of dinner and something bubbly. The rest of us? Well, we’ll be working as normal, rushing to the supermarket, grabbing whatever is left on the shelf to cook quickly before slumping on the sofa and possibly falling asleep. Ha, gold star for guessing which one I am…

However, as it’s a day about feeling the lurve, a slightly personal post today [eek]. You see, despite being engaged for a year and a half [and still no date set] me and Mr M celebrated 10 years together at the end of last year and around this time we were also were lucky enough to be photographed by the fabulous, warm and talented Joanna Brown for one of her mentoring sessions.

I’ve long been a fan of Joanna’s work and was also lucky enough to work with her on Katie and Brett’s wedding, and I can hand on heart say it’s a testament to her talent that I’m even posting this. I’m no fan of the camera, and neither is he, I’ll admit we were both awkward and nervous. We collectively have a list of insecurities as long as all our limbs joined together, and team that with the fact we’re not great at showing public affection…well, I thought it would be nigh on impossible to have a half decent photo of the two of us.

Well, to my amazement Joanna got it. She captured US.

And one definitely for the family album. What the….!?!

If you feel the need, you can see more of our faces and read about the mentoring session on Joanna’s blog here. I hope that helps prove to any self-concious couple that a good photographer can make you feel at ease, and if you let them, they’ll see the real you too…

And… big thanks to Joanna Brown. You’re a bit good.

London Bride Loves – Rebcca Lindon Photography

Engagements

There is just such a charm about beautiful film photography. The muted colours, the slight texture and light of the images – so I’m thrilled to welcome wedding photographer Rebecca Lindon as a sponsor to London Bride.

Rebecca loves to work with the magic of film but also with the developing digital technology – she works with natural light to capture the natural beauty and love for each couple.

I thought I’d introduce Rebecca’s work with this gorgeous engagement shoot with couple David and Hannah. They had a beautiful lake-side location for this shoot – woolly jumpers, peaceful water and comfy blankets, I just love the cosiness and romance of it all…

Nancy + Andrew – Romance and Roses in Regent’s Park

Engagements

See that grey sky out there? Rubbish isn’t it…well here is a very pretty and romantic engagement shoot of super sweet couple Nancy and Andrew by photographer Laura Babb to whisk you back to the blue skies of summer [as brief as they were!].

Nancy and Andrew met for the first time in Hyde Park through friends, but he wasn’t brave enough to ask for her number until they met again at Regent’s Park. They chose this setting for the engagement shoot and a bit of summer fun as it’s a special place to both of them. The park was also a very useful spot to be as it gave them the opportunity to collect pretty petals from the gorgeous Rose gardens so that they could dry them and use for confetti for their wedding May next year. How sweet is that!

Wishing Andrew and Nancy best wishes for their wedding next year and big love to photographer Laura Babb for letting me share her sunny work on the blog today.

Christy + Johan London Pre Wedding Shoot

Engagements

There are so many idyllic spots for engagement or pre-wedding shoots in London, and this romantic session has some of my favourites such as Primrose Hill, a classic mews and the stunning backdrop of Westminster. The shoot took place just at the start of the Olympics, and this just goes to show how quiet the streets of London were, no-one believed me but this is proof!

Christy and Johan wanted to have some romantic photographs in the city to remember as they are getting married in Indonesia in a few months. They chose photographer Dasha Caffrey for her natural style and although they didn’t have experience in front of the camera, you can tell Dasha did a great job of making them feel comfortable as these guys look so glamorous!

Thanks to Christy and Johan for sharing their beautiful shoot with us, and wishing you a wonderful wedding later this year!

Pretty Pinwheels – Lavender Field Pre Wedding Shoot

Lavender Field Wedding Shoot

So hopefully you enjoyed Monday’s post of the cute and colourful part 1 of the pre-wedding shoot that I styled and co-ordinated for Angelia and Wiyono at Hampton Court Palace. For the second part of the shoot, we headed just out of London to Surrey to the Mayfield lavender fields to set up for a more romantic, ‘bridal’ style session. I think it was really cute that Angelia and Wiyono were keen to play dress up a little for this part of the day, and with their wedding taking place back home in Indonesia with 300+ people, this was a chance to get some private, romantic and very picturesque photos to remember.

It was great to be back at the lavender fields again,  especially with photographer Eddie Judd [we’re now known as the Charles n Eddie combo, ha!], as she has the most wonderful way of capturing people and nature and is so at home at the lavender fields, so the perfect combination for this shoot!

In terms of styling, I kept the paper pinwheel prettiness as a theme, and with the help of some fabulous suppliers I was able to bring together some gorgeous details which I know the couple were so thrilled with.

From Angelia: “Just wanted to say thank you very much for yesterday! We had an amazing day, thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience from trying the difficult poses to changing behind the desk at the Lavender field! Thanks for preparing all the props, setting up the scene, directing us and of course taking great pictures for us. Really glad that we had you for the shoot, we wouldn’t have enjoyed it without you both.” Aw, thanks Angelia we had great fun too!

As soon as I knew Angelia was keen to wear something that could be ‘bridal’ I got in touch with the ladies from Kitty and Dulcie who kindly loaned us their Pearly Queen dress with high lace neck and feminine tulle skirt. It was the perfect dress for Angelia and I wanted to try something a little different, so came up with the concept of a fresh flower bridal belt which Steph from Fairy Nuff Flowers worked her absolute magic on! I love the pastel colour combinations and the texture created, and I think it would make a lovely alternative to a bouquet for a bride wanting something a little more unique.

I was thrilled when Angelia showed me some of her paper pinwheel inspiration, and I just knew we had to incorporate a pinwheel bouquet in the shoot. This incredible creation was by Lisa at Ribbons and Tulle who handmade this bouquet and each of the pinwheels that make it up! She was so helpful and worked with my concept and colours and even tailored the stem handle with lace for me to match the dress. It almost looks like hydrangea flowers, thanks Lisa! I know Angelia was thrilled with this and is going to include it at her wedding back home too!

Paper Pinwheel Bouquet

Siobhan Drew styled Angelia’s hair in a beautiful rolled up-do which we added small buds of gypsophelia to. I wanted the hair to be up to not only showcase the beautiful neckline of the dress, but also the statement earrings which compliment the natural backdrop. I really hope to see more brides with big jewels, as they just add such a touch of glamour [and in case you wanted to know, these were just £15 from Asos so you don’t have to spend a fortune!].

We gave Wiyono a beautiful lavender coloured Scabiosa flower as a buttonhole to match the colour scheme.

As well as the pinwheel bouquet, I commissioned Carla at Popsicle Pinwheels to create a pretty pinwheel garland which was a lovely detail and useful prop too! The papers were so pretty and it would look great hanging at home afterwards!

As Angelia and Wiyono had fallen in love with the romantic table set up in the previous styled shoot, I just had to re-create this just for the two of them to enjoy! I wanted the table to be super sweet and it was bursting with details and beautiful blooms by Fairy Nuff flowers – including the centrepiece which had some lovely pastel shades and was even made up with draping berries.

Having seen the work of Anges de Sucre, I was keen to include heart shaped macarons and Reshmi did a great job of making these for me and I was so impressed with how well they turned out [they even survived the rather vigourous post man!]. I sadly didn’t get to taste them which is a shame, but maybe it’s just a good excuse for me to order more!

Heart Shape Macaron in Teacup - Eddie Judd Photography

We weren’t blessed with blue skies, but after a summer of rain and a few worries about whether or not it would even go ahead, I’m so pleased I got to work with Eddie to create such beautiful images of a lovely couple.

Pretty Pinwheels – Hampton Court Palace Pre Wedding Shoot

Engagements, INSPIRATION, Design & Decor, LONDON BRIDE LIFE

Morning! It’s been a busy weekend as I planned a very fun wedding on Saturday at a private retro bowling alley, but I’m so excited to share this with you today, and this is a two-part post with part 2 coming up tomorrow. Last year you may recall the styled photoshoot I did with photographer Eddie Judd at the beautiful Mayfield lavender fields in Surrey. Since the shoot, a lovely couple, Angelia and Wiyono fell head over heels for the place and got in touch to see if myself and Eddie could re-create something similar for them as an engagement shoot in London. They are due to be married back home in Indonesia in December, but living in London, they also wanted to have some less formal photos of them in some picturesque settings in their home town and I hope these provide them with some beautiful memories for themselves and for their families!

Angelia is a big fan of pinwheel prettiness, so this was very much a subtle theme for the day throughout both shoots and we also wanted to include a ‘Save the Date’ photo in there too! We kept the first part [which is today’s feature] at Hampton Court Palace, playful, fun and colourful making the most of the immaculate gardens and wonderful surroundings, with a more romantic, bridal and pretty feel for the lavender fields later on [part 2 up tomorrow].

Eddie has, as always produced amazing photographs and was fantastic at capturing these two and the setting perfectly. I have to say it was a fairly long day [we were mostly stuck in 2012 Olympic traffic for the cycling event!] but Angelia and Wiyono were so enthusiastic and a pleasure to work with and photograph.

There were a number of wonderful people who made this 2 part shoot possible – for this shoot Siobhan Drew did Angelia’s hair and make-up [she’s a pro at working in carparks and on park benches!] and the very pretty paper pinwheels were all handmade by Carla from Popsicle Pinwheels.

I just wanted to point out that the top photo is REAL! We were determined to get a shot from above, and Eddie ran upstairs to the inside of the Palace [we had to get a ticket especially for this shot!] and we waited for that split second when the crowds disappeared! These shoots do have an element of thought behind them you see…!

Aren’t they just lovely! It’s so nice to see a pre wedding shoot that is bursting with colour and vibrance so I was thrilled to work on this brief! Thank you Eddie and Angelia and Wiyono, the very pretty part 2 coming up tomorrow!

Sweet Spitalfields engagement shoot

Engagements

The adorable Claire and Russ had this sweet engagement session with their photographer Jordanna Marston. They decided to take a little wonder around Spitalfields and Brick Lane in East London, full of quirky little spots and they indulged [well who wouldn’t] in a few delicious treats from the markets along the way. This couple are super chilled and cute, and I love their style.

Thank you to Russ and Claire and to photographer Jordanna for letting me share this adorable shoot!
