A Rainy Yet Beautiful July Hackney Round Chapel Wedding

WEDDINGS, Elegant, Informal

Photography by Emma Case PhotographyWedding Co-ordinator London Bride

Tash & Richard had a beautiful yet rainy July Hackney Round Chapel wedding. Boys in bow-ties, two ceremonies, mis-matched bridesmaids, frozen cocktails and a Jewish Hora dance, we loved co-ordinating this wonderful perfectly imperfect London wedding!

Rainy July Hackney Round Chapel Wedding London by Emma Case Photography

It’s been a little over a year since the lovely Tash and Richard’s wedding that we co-ordinated and I’m so pleased to finally be sharing their fabulous day!

It was July and whilst you’d think that would mean beautiful hazy sunshine, it in fact meant torrential downpours, all day long. And I mean all day. It’s one of the wettest weddings I’ve co-ordinated, ironic really given it was a summer wedding but it absolutely didn’t dampen the day one bit, and I remember how much it actually made everyone laugh and smile because of the ridiculous-ness of it all! I love the image above by their photographer, Emma Case as it just shows, you can’t plan for the weather so you just have to smile and roll with it, just like these two and their guests did.

It really was a beautiful day despite the rain, with pretty mis-matching maids in creams and blush, boys in bow-ties, flowers made by the Groom’s mother, treats of cheese and ice-cream, frozen slush cocktails and two ceremonies, plus a rather epic Hora (Jewish circle dance) that I’ve witnessed at a wedding (not going to lie, the planner in me was concerned about anyone getting hurt but pleased to report everyone was of course fine!).

I’ve loved featuring the write-up from the bride Tash, I know many of you enjoy simply browsing through the images, but if you can, do take a few moments to read their lovely story of their day – as the bride Tash had herself said, “I found it really comforting and touching to read entries about weddings that carried a sense of reality and not everything being totally perfect. There can be so much pressure to get everything ‘right’ and for all the decisions to come naturally and hassle-free.” A wise and wonderful bride… over to you Tash and Richard.

A Little Hackney Wedding With A Bride In Her Grandmother’s Dress

WEDDINGS, Informal

Little Hackney Wedding by Laura McCluskey

Today’s wedding is a super sweet little Hackney wedding. Sarah and Aaron kept their wedding all about their marriage by just having a simple town hall registry office wedding at the location that they first met each other, followed by a few drinks with their closest friends and family. It’s so adorable to see a couple get ready together with their family, and a day that’s just about the marriage, no frills! In keeping with the low-key feel to the day, Sarah wore not just any vintage dress, but her own Grandmother’s which fitted her like a glove, how romantic is that…

From the bride Sarah: We got married one year to the day that we met near Hackney Town Hall. Originally, we were going to elope but decided to have a small ceremony with close family. Essentially, we just wanted to get married, so the details actually weren’t that important to us other than we wanted to stay close to the places around Hackney where we had our first date and keep the day as relaxed as possible!

My dress belonged to my grandma (her evening dress, she wore it with an emerald green stole). It was meant to be, fitted me perfectly without alterations!

Thanks for sharing such a small and special day Sarah and Aaron and to Laura for capturing it perfectly.

Ellie + Liam – Vintage Hackney Wedding at The Roost

WEDDINGS, Informal, Vintage Inspired

Winter Hackney Wedding at The Roost by Christine Wehrmeier

Although it’s just turned into Spring, here’s a wonderful winter’s wedding to share with you today. Ellie and Liam had an intimate vintage inspired Hackney wedding at the very cool venue The Roost. I love how their style translates through their day beautifully, even the stunning ceremony backdrop of the Town Hall Hotel is in keeping with their glamorous Old  Hollywood style.

“We didn’t set out to have a theme as such – we both love to travel and it was while backpacking throughout Central America for 6 months that Liam proposed, so we decided to incorporate this into our day. Small and intimate and fun for all was our vision so we invited just our close family and friends and ‘relaxed’ on the formalities.”

Got to love how Ellie went from her cute onesie into glamorous starlet! Ellie wore the Lalique Lace 1920.1 dress by Charlie Brear which was the catlayst for her beautifully original vintage inspired bridal style “It was all a bit by accident really. I had a very different look in mind and after trying many dresses I was persuaded to try on a different style and was completely surprised by how much I loved it and from there a 1930’s theme fell into place. I really enjoyed the search for original vintage pieces though I’m particularly fond of my shoes! I gave the bridesmaids free reign to choose their own dresses for the day and they chose the same one!”

Ellie accessorised the dress with a number of original 1930s items that she sourced such herself, such as the Ermine fur cape, the rhinestone bracelethair comb and dress clips. She then teamed the dress with the most perfectly matched ‘Francesca’ shoes by Emmy London.

Liam’s pocket handkerchief was a token gift from the bride on the morning of the ceremony… Ellie had it made for him out of the spare material left from her wedding dress. And Liam surprised Ellie with a custom made pair of ‘just married’ converse shoes! How sweet and thoughtful are those gifts!

“Since we had decided upon a winter wedding we simply chose a colour to complement the season – a nice rich berry red for the bridesmaids dresses and matching ties for the groomsmen. We also chose this colour for the brides bouquet of Amaryllis and Roses. We chose simple Gypsophelia bouquets for the bridesmaids – such a delicate flower that looks like a whispery ball of lace!”

“We used to live next door to the Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green and would regularly pop in to the bar for our favourite night cap – the best Old Fashioned cocktail in town! We wanted a small London wedding with just our closest friends and family, and after discussing our search for a suitable venue that day, the bar tender suggested we take a look at the stunning Council Chamber which was not only perfect in size but stood apart from any other we had seen and the decision was made!”

The ceremony was such a meaningful, poignant part of the day for the couple, “After I said my vows my husband said ‘thank you’. I still get teary when I think of that moment!” Liam says “When my beautiful wife walked in, seeing her in the dress – it was a very powerful moment. Although he also recalls another of his favourite moments of the day, “When she went wrong during the first dance and I didn’t!”.

The couple had some beautiful live acoustic music sung during the ceremony by Charlotte Kao and Spencer Taylor from Him and Her which added to the intimacy of the day.

“Our photographer Christine Wehrmeier is a very close friend and we had the privilege of having our photos taken by her a year or so before we became engaged and loved the results so it was very easy to make that choice!

As is popular with London weddings, the couple had a routemaster bus to transport their guests to their venue reception, but this is a beautiful special vintage one complete with old adverts, how fun!

“We found The Roost and we just loved the quirky-ness of it with it’s fabulously eclectic decor and being just a short bus ride from the Ceremony it was the perfect location and size for our reception. The venue spoke for itself so there was very little required in terms of decor on the day – just fairy lighting in the windows of our reception dining room”

“We wanted good quality hearty food for a winter day. Bangers and mash is our favourite meal so we decided this would be the menu for our wedding. We didn’t want a cake as neither of us particularly eat it so we decided to do something different… we made our own Wedding Jelly! We recreated the moment Liam proposed whilst Scuba diving with an underwater scene using lego parts complete with a scuba diving bride & groom!” That’s definitely an original wedding cake if ever I saw it! Love how they incorporated their engagement proposal into the day and who doesn’t like jelly right?

“We came across Paddy playing the Disco Shed at Bestival and when we found he did Disco Wed to we booked him straight away – EVERYONE was on the dance floor ALL night! For entertainment we made up our own DIY photo booth with silly wigs and hats and a Polaroid camera – such fun and so easy!”

Don’t stress about the details and how it will all ‘look’ – Weddings are about commitment and celebrating love. Weddings are about people. Weddings are about you. Build on that and everything else will follow. Choose the right photographer for you and your style, not because of the price! That’s the biggest investment you will make of your day as those pictures will be the memories that last. If you find the right one for you they will find the details that matter.

Huge thanks to the lovely Ellie and Liam and to their photographer Christine for sharing their wedding day, so charming and such fun!

Gemma + Pete – A London Bride MC Motors Wedding

LONDON BRIDE LIFE, WEDDINGS, Urban

MC Motors Wedding London | Photography: Aneta Mak | Planning & Styling: London Bride

This MC Motors wedding was one of my all time favourite weddings to work on, it’s taken me a while to blog it as it was featured both online on Style Me Pretty and in print in You & Your Wedding magazine so a little patience to blog was required!

The East London venue, MC Motors was such a great canvas to work with (and handily around the corner from me and the couple!) but also I loved Gemma and Pete’s creative brief of ‘Distressed Elegance’ for their November wedding.

Gemma and Pete are a super stylish couple and were keen for their wedding to reflect their London lifestyle – combining their love of the urban city with but with a sophisticated, creative aesthetic and the key was very much that they wanted to enjoy their day with all their wonderful friends and family.

I thought I’d share a few of the early concept boards which I created for them, which is nice to look back on and in fact I’d like to think we stayed quite close to the initial concepts!

GP

Many of the elements which I proposed in the boards such as wild ivy, hanging festoons, gold foiled stationery and berry florals were all final elements included in the wedding.

Overall the day was full of fun, food style and sophistication all captured in effortless and timeless fine art photography from Aneta Mak, who shoots mainly on film which really does just add to the beauty of it all…

Gemma and her bridesmaids got ready at the Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green. They chose one of the amazing apartments so that all the girls could have their hair and make up done together whilst sipping on bubbles of course! The fantastic Sev at Hepburn Collection created a beautiful modern classic up-do, whilst Mariam Jensen gave Gemma a flawless radiant complexion.
Gemma’s stunning gown and veil were by Halfpenny London, an effortless fit on her, the elegant fabric draped just perfectly, teamed with a thick sash which tied in a bow, and for the ceremony she chose to combine with the sweet lace overlay shrug which provided beautiful detailing for the back.
As a hint to the lace accents of Gemma’s dress, the bridesmaids wore Navy lace dresses from Whistles which were perfect for winter city chic. Being Scottish, some of the groomsmen and Father of the Bride sported kilts whilst the groom incorporated a touch of the bride’s heritage with his tartan tie.

The ceremony took place at the beautiful art-deco Town Hall in Islington, after which guests were treated to Champagne aboard a London Routemaster bus to the warehouse wedding reception at MC Motors in Hackney.

The bride and groom had some precious time together along with their photographer Aneta Mak who captured these stunning portraits. I remember just how much they were beaming after the ceremony and these images of them are just so incredibly romantic. That location is just perfection!

As the guests arrived into the street-like atrium bar, they were treated to ale and Champagne as well as oysters, shucked by hand and served by Oystermeister. As a surprise, we then arranged to have the couple arrive in their London taxi straight into the al-fresco style area which was such a fun moment as we lifted the shutters at their arrival to a round of applause!
We transformed the warehouse, which is essentially a film and photographic location, into two decadent spaces for drinking and for dining and dancing. Whilst the adults were enjoying the reception we also created a room for the young children to play, create and watch cartoons in which I have to say is a welcome addition for most parents when at a wedding!
In keeping with the theme we wanted to use the structure of the room to create atmosphere so The Flower Appreciation Society draped beautiful ivy from the industrial walls, poles and ceiling beams scattered with dahlias and festoon lighting was hung to provide warm lighting for the dark winter’s evening. There were thoughtful touches such as taxi cards so that guests could make their way home safely and for a nightcap there was of course an abundance of Scottish whisky served on a whisky trolley for those wanting a break from the dancefloor!

As huge foodies, the catering was a key element to the day and the menu reflected their love of enjoying London’s culinary delights with home-made terrines by the Groom’s brother (who is a chef), spit roast chickens, indulgent cheese boards and a hearty evening hog roast. With the meal taking centre stage, inspired by indulgent supper clubs, the table decorations were elegant but with a relaxed bistro feel. Antique brass candlesticks and cut glass decanters for the wine added a decadence to the styling among the relaxed berry florals.
The menus which were each tied with a mini sparkler to be used for the toast, completed the bespoke gold foiled and screen printed stationery suite onto rustic brown kraft paper which I worked with a designer to create, and the couples friend hand drew the table plan onto an ornate mirror for a touch of luxury and a focal point for the guests.

After some amusing and heartfelt speeches, for the evening, Gemma swopped her delicate lace shrug for beautiful embellished and sparkling detail for a glamorous transformation ready for the first dance. A true Scottish party wouldn’t be complete without a ceilidh so after dinner guests took part in a traditional (and very lively!) dance followed by a brilliant DJ party set by the Wedding Smashers.
It was such a fun wedding with a great team that was true to the couples style. They’ve just celebrated their first anniversary so congrats Gemma and Pete and of course huge thanks to the wonderfully talented Aneta Mak for letting me share the beautiful images.

London Bride Loves… Lisa Jane Photography

Aisle Style

A very warm welcome to a seriously cool new sponsor for London BrideLisa Jane Photography. If you are looking for an urban, alternative but warm photographer then Lisa is your girl. She has such creative eye for capturing love but also those little moments that may well be missed in the madness of the day itself. A wonderful combination as you can see from some of her work which really does tell a beautiful story. I’m perhaps also a little biased as Lisa is also a fellow East-Londoner so she’s in my hood!
