Colourful Origami Winter Peasant Pub Wedding Clerkenwell

WEDDINGS, Informal

Colourful Origami Clerkenwell Pub Wedding By Laura Babb

Hands up who’s ever tried to make an origami crane? I have, not that successfully I may add and after reading the tutorial quite a number of times indeed. Well, today’s bride (and groom!) must by now be pretty damn good at them, as Laura and Paul decided to make 1,000 origami cranes after reading about the tradition (it’s thought to be very good luck), which made for a rather amazing feature for their December pub wedding in Clerkenwell.

The beautiful rainbow of colours hanging from the ceiling brighten up the pub interior teamed with stunning colourful jewel toned flowers from That Flower Shop and some really fun geometric stationery meant this winter wedding was a bright and cheerful affair all round, captured by Laura Babb.

From the bride, Laura: “We wanted a day that reflected us as a couple – relaxed and fun, with an emphasis on family, friends, good food and flowing drinks. We did most of our dating in London so it was really special to hold the wedding in the City we both love.

Early on we agreed that a Pub wedding was definitely for us and as soon as we met the team at The Peasant we were able to relax as we knew that they would take care of everything for us (and Paul and his friends love a good Ale!).

We had read about the 1,000 origami crane tradition and thought that a rainbow of colours would work really well at the venue. This went on to inspire some of the other touches like my blue and white Ted Baker shoes and also the flowers (that were perfect and everything we could have hoped for!).

One of our best buys was our funky geometric stationary which we found by chance on Etsy, we kept this theme running from our invites through to the table plans, menus and place cards and they really added a lovely touch. I was really really nervous about finding the perfect dress and for many months scoured the high street for a dress as I couldn’t face visiting a bridal shop, eventually my sisters set me up with an appointment at Confetti Bridal in Wokingham (near my hometown of Reading). The second dress I picked up was definitely ‘the one’ and immediately the pressure was off! Laura also wore a sweet handmade knit made by her mum to keep her warm.

Finally the photography was definitely close to the top of our list of priorities – you only do it once and we wanted to find someone who could capture the vibe of our whole day. We had seen many of Laura Babb’s photos as she does a lot of London weddings and we attended a wedding she had shot earlier in the year. It was an obvious choice and to say that we are over the moon with her work is an understatement – on 1st viewing (and 2nd and 3rd) there was not a dry eye in the house!

Thank you to Laura and Paul for sharing their gorgeous cheery day with us, proving you can go bright in winter!

Alice in wonderland islington metal works wedding

WEDDINGS, Informal

Alice in Wonderland Islington Metalworks Wedding by Babb Photo

It’s always fun to see how couples put their spin on their wedding day, and the lovely Roger and Sarah were inspired to put a little bit of Alice in Wonderland magic to their Islington Metalworks wedding! “Although we didn’t initially want a theme we saw photos of an Alice in Wonderland wedding on the Metalworks website and thought that it looked great and we loved the idea of it being a wedding for people who are a little bit twisted!” This winter wedding is full of creative details that work so well in the venue and must have been a great talking point for all the guests, especially all those amazing cakes!

“We went with Laura at Babb Photo for the photography because she represented very good value for money is highly professional and has a cool style of photography which is unobtrusive but also ‘real’ and not over polished”. The atmosphere we were aiming for was warm and inclusive, hence we had big rows of tables rather than small circular tables. We also had lots of different styles of music throughout the day which included a jazz band, jukebox hour where the guests selected their choices ahead of the day as well as a Moroccon band which kicked off the evening then a DJ into the late hours!

The bride Sarah chose an elegant figure flattering lace dress with ribbon detail and an unusual brooch bouquet by Love Bouquet which I think made the perfect accessory for a winter’s wedding with all the sparkle. The bride went for a dress that she knew her groom would love to see her in, “The dress was meant to be something elegant and strapless as that was one of Roger’s stipulations!” The Islington Metal Works is an unusual and quirky venue and was the perfect backdrop for this creatively themed wedding and also great as it’s close in location to the Town Hall where they held their ceremony. “We chose the Metal Works as we initially went to look at hotels and just felt that they lacked spirit so started looking on the internet for warehouse weddings. Islington was a great choice because it is such a lovely area and guests who were staying the night before had plenty of choice on where to go out.

Sarah was lucky enough to have some very talented friends involved in her wedding, and she has some great advice “Allow your friends to show how talented they are by helping out. It makes it more personable, but give them space to be creative as putting too much pressure on them only puts people off.” Along with tables of sweets, there were a selection of amazing cakes which featured Cheshire Cats and playing cards which were made by a friend and her very talented bridesmaid created a special Alice in Wonderland wedding cake!

They also they offered guests mezze food to add to the informal atmosphere which was a great hit with the guests and the theme was all brought together by cute little ‘key’ escort cards for guests to find their seats. They also decided to do something a little bit different for their first dance and hired a Moroccan band to perform and the bride says it was a highlight of the day, “The most special part of the day had to be our first dance as we marched in with the Moroccan band!”

Congratulations to Sarah and Roger on a fabulously quirky wedding which looked such great fun and to Laura at Babb Photo  for sharing her wonderful work.

London Bride Loves – Golden Apple Wedding Stationery

Aisle Style

Well my paper obsession continues as I welcome a fabulous and talented new sponsor – Golden Apple, who are creators of fun, pretty and contemporary wedding invites and stationery. Leah is a super creative gal who shares my penchant for paper and pens however unlike me, she is rather a dab hand at designing rather pretty stationery too! You won’t find a swarovski buckle in sight [phew] with Leah’s work as she creates lovely bespoke illustrations and designs with each couple in mind. There’s something to suit everyone including DIY or emailable invites for brides on a budget and there’s also a rather fab ‘love shoot save the date‘ package where you and your beau get to have a fun photoshoot with a recommended photographer with your chosen image to be printed into your ‘save the date’ cards. How cute is that? Love it!
