After being in the industry for eight years, It’s not often I draw a blank at what to write or say when it comes to weddings, and yet this page has been open for quite some time (months and weeks, even). Whilst there’s so much to tell you, I imagine the above sort of says it all really.
WE GOT married!
Since I was whisked away by Marcus on a treasure hunt surprise trip to NYC and a magical proposal back in 2011, New York has always been at the back of our minds. After five years of attempting to plan a wedding here, it became apparent it was going to be an impossible task (for so many reasons), so we eventually made the decision to elope in secret. After just 2 months of planning behind closed doors, with only our immediate family (and a hundred or so onlookers) we said ‘I do’ on Pebble Beach in Brooklyn with the sun shining and the city of NYC as our backdrop on 11th May 2016 and it was a perfectly imperfect romantic whirlwind. Yes, that’s not a typo, we have in fact been married over a year and have just celebrated our first anniversary as husband and wife!!
‘Learn to love surprises’
By the time you’re reading this we’ll have held Part 2 here in London, our ‘surprise-post-elopement-wedding-celebration-party’ on our one year anniversary with a rather carefully orchestrated reveal, a personal vow renewal and hopefully more than a few glasses of celebratory bubbles with our closest friends. That is… if they are still speaking to us.
No longer always the wedding planner, never the bride… after fifteen years together and having made over 100 weddings happen for other people, it feels pretty damn good to have finally joined the club and for it to have been my turn for a change.
It’s a bit of a tale to tell, and truth be told I think I need a bit of time to enjoy finally being able to wear my wedding ring and say ‘my husband’ in public (although having a secret husband for a year has been rather fun). So for now I’ll leave you with our very special announcement film by Philip White and where it all started with a magical NYC proposal 6 years ago… and I look forward to sharing parts 1 and 2 with you soon.
LONDON BRIDE ELOPEMENT
A small, well BIG, message of thanks to everyone who made this happen (parts 1 & 2!). For all their support, talent and of course for keeping this secret for a whole year. Special thanks and for their endless patience to our photographer Amber Gress and film-maker Philip White whom created memories beyond words for us in New York a year ago. To the few confidantes who were in on this, thank you, thank you, thank you for being a sounding board, and to the many friends and colleagues I’ve told little white lies too, please forgive me!

A behind the scenes look at the London Bride & Otaduy Bridal special bridal showcase last month. We were thrilled to invite readers and brides to this intimate event to try on dresses and chat and be inspired by some of our wedding industry friends!
Part of why I love working in this industry is getting the chance to work and collaborate with like-minded, creative and modern thinking wedding colleagues. It pushes the industry in the right direction and just bouncing ideas, inspiration and swopping stories is really refreshing.
Having been a fan of Barcelona bridal designers, Otaduy and their gorgeous London showroom, we decided to collaborate and hold an intimate bridal event to showcase their new collection, meet with brides (and readers of London Bride!) and also to introduce them to some fabulous wedding brands, suppliers, designers and makers. It was so much fun to see bride’s try on potential contender dresses, with their friends and family with the added fun of trying on veils, shoes, holding a beautiful bouquet as well as be made-up all whilst in a relaxing and intimate atmosphere with delicious and cute mini bottles of sparkling wine courtesy of Cordoniu and refreshing and stylish hydration from Solan de Cabras. Definitely the way dress shopping should be!
As a wedding planner and blogger, it’s also really lovely for me to connect with bride-to-be’s to hear about their days and their styles and wedding inspiration and of course talking all about dresses!
Otaduy showcased their new ‘I Do’ collection, which you can see more of here but is inspired by the glamorous days of disco, and free-spirited style… Otaduy has a lovely balance of feminine dresses and cool separates (plus jackets!) that are for a modern boho bride and are perfect for both a city wedding or something a little more rural. We had a lovely mix of brides at the event who were getting married in the city, the countryside and a few destination weddings too (lucky them!).
Tash & Richard had a beautiful yet rainy July Hackney Round Chapel wedding. Boys in bow-ties, two ceremonies, mis-matched bridesmaids, frozen cocktails and a Jewish Hora dance, we loved co-ordinating this wonderful perfectly imperfect London wedding!
It’s been a little over a year since the lovely Tash and Richard’s wedding that we co-ordinated and I’m so pleased to finally be sharing their fabulous day!
It was July and whilst you’d think that would mean beautiful hazy sunshine, it in fact meant torrential downpours, all day long. And I mean all day. It’s one of the wettest weddings I’ve co-ordinated, ironic really given it was a summer wedding but it absolutely didn’t dampen the day one bit, and I remember how much it actually made everyone laugh and smile because of the ridiculous-ness of it all! I love the image above by their photographer, Emma Case as it just shows, you can’t plan for the weather so you just have to smile and roll with it, just like these two and their guests did.
It really was a beautiful day despite the rain, with pretty mis-matching maids in creams and blush, boys in bow-ties, flowers made by the Groom’s mother, treats of cheese and ice-cream, frozen slush cocktails and two ceremonies, plus a rather epic Hora (Jewish circle dance) that I’ve witnessed at a wedding (not going to lie, the planner in me was concerned about anyone getting hurt but pleased to report everyone was of course fine!).
I’ve loved featuring the write-up from the bride Tash, I know many of you enjoy simply browsing through the images, but if you can, do take a few moments to read their lovely story of their day – as the bride Tash had herself said, “I found it really comforting and touching to read entries about weddings that carried a sense of reality and not everything being totally perfect. There can be so much pressure to get everything ‘right’ and for all the decisions to come naturally and hassle-free.” A wise and wonderful bride… over to you Tash and Richard.
Draping foliage and watercolour details for an urban oasis summer in the city wedding for Crisa and Gareth’s, planned and styled by London Bride.
I’m so pleased to share one of my favourite London Bride weddings of last year. I worked with Crisa and Gareth to plan and style their urban summer wedding at MC Motors last July. Despite a fairly limited timescale to pull things together, we collaborated with a team of amazing suppliers for a beautiful summery day in the city for the couple, creating an urban oasis full of foliage and florals, pretty paper details, delicious food and drink as well as unique personal touches throughout. The day was captured perfectly by the amazing Chloe at Caught The Light (who’s stunning film photography really did make it look like the mediterranean!) and was also previously featured on Style Me Pretty.
Urban and atmospheric wedding with winter brights for couple Jess and Nick’s February celebrations at the elegant yet distressed The Asylum and MC Motors.
It’s actually quite a struggle for me to put together the features on weddings that I’ve planned and been a part of, and for that reason you’ll notice they generally have a lot more images so I can only apologise in advance if this is a lengthy one!
I co-ordinated this urban brights winter wedding earlier in February and it’s taken me quite some time just to edit the images down. Partly because Lee at Robbins Phogoraphic has captured the day in such a way I almost feel like I can’t miss anything out, partly because Jess and Nick are a seriously good looking couple and partly because the day was beautiful – in style and in atmosphere. I’m sure you’ll see my struggle!
Jess and Nick managed to combine so much into their day. It was bright but stylish, informal yet romantic whilst being elegant and urban. Not many couples choose February as a month to marry in, but with colourful wild flowers by Palais Flowers, beautifully worn venues, a cosy atmosphere and all your loved ones together it really could have been any day of the year.
A new (hopefully!) feature series on what London Bride Loves; a roundup of life in weddings, London and lifestyle.
In my position as a blogger, Londoner, wedding industry member and general sucker for nice things it’s actually impossible for me to keep you updated with everything I see, like, hear about and do. So, in honour of at least attempting to share things, I’ll be featuring what London Brides Loves across weddings, London and lifestyle as a round-up post with little snippets instead!
I’d like to try and do these every other week, but let’s see how we go (don’t want to make promises, I have a very busy wedding season coming up!!) but the good news is here is the first!
A cool, contemporary Sunbeam Studios wedding for Katy and Simon. Ombre pink hair, a Charlie Brear dress and a Sunday Roast feast for this unique and meaningful Jew-Ish celebration with neon pink details.
I’m so pleased to finally be featuring this fabulous modern wedding today that I planned last summer. Katy and Simon were a cool, contemporary couple and I love that this wedding reflects that in every detail. From the meaningful ‘Jew-Ish’ ceremony, to Katy’s amazing ombre pink hair to the roast dinner feast (despite it being August) and the first dance in trainers it was so great working with them as they put their personalities into every element of the day for their Sunbeam Studios wedding.
A bride in leather and lace, lego buttonholes and an 80s band for this fun and quirky couple – Gwen & Li-Hur’s playful yet elegant Claridge’s wedding.
Part of being a wedding planner is working with some pretty amazing clients, and in some amazing places. Well Gwen and Li-Hur’s wedding was both of these for me. Whilst we had the elegance and luxury backdrop of London’s iconic Claridge’s for the day, this couple loved quirky details, so injected their personalities into the day for their guests to enjoy, with fun touches such as the buttonholes by Fairy Nuff Flowers that were tied with a lego figure, the 80’s evening band that filled the dance floor and the fact that Gwen decided to wear her amazing green leather jacket over her stunning Monique Lhuillier gown for a leather and lace look, all made for a gorgeous spring wedding.
A London Bride winter warehouse wedding at MC Motors for couple Hannah & Tom with twinkling candlelight, wild flowers with the bride in a beautiful vintage inspired Halfpenny London dress.
With the blog re-launching today I thought it would be a nice opportunity to share with you some of the weddings I’ve worked on in the last year which I’ve yet to feature, so this week I’ll be bringing you a London Bride wedding every day!
Today’s wedding is from January this year. Having met Hannah and Tom in August last year in just 4 months I worked with them to design, plan and co-ordinate their stylish and urban winter warehouse wedding at MC MOTORS in East London. They are such a genuine, laid back and lovely couple (with the cutest toddler to boot, just look at the photos of Dory!) and with their discerning style, it was a huge pleasure to work with them on their day.
With the wedding taking place in January we made the most of the winter season by creating a romantic atmosphere with a cosy vintage aesthetic with twinkling festoon lights, gold accents, vintage glassware, moody florals by GRACE AND THORN and a feast by HANDMADE FOOD. In the evening, with red wine flowing the guests and couple danced the night away to the incredible sounds of Mister Kanish as photographer Kat Hill captured all those perfect little moments.
