Chances are if you are reading this blog (which is about love, weddings, etc!) then you’ll be more than aware Valentine’s day is coming up. Whilst I’m not a huge fan of going overly smooshy at this time of year (no cards or red roses in this household!) there’s no denying that it’s a great excuse to just get away and take some Time. Out.
Time out from wedding planning perhaps or just a break to make this cold grey winter not seem so long! This year 14th February actually falls on a Saturday so whether it’s just for a night or a long weekend, Becky Baines from the travel team at the exceptional Mr & Mrs Smith has picked her top spots for the best hotels away for this weekend, or really, for any weekend because of course anytime is a good time to spend relaxing in luxury with your favourite person!
COSY COUNTRY PUB
The Crown, Amersham
This 500-year-old coaching inn feels like a rural hideaway, but it’s just at the western end of the Metropolitan line. With a modern makeover courtesy of design-guru Ilse Crawford, the interiors are stylish and understated, and work beautifully with the character of the building. It’s great value too, and has an excellent menu, so book a table by the open fire then kick back at the bar. Amersham is in the beautiful Chilterns, so there are plenty of pretty walks. Don’t forget your wellies, and a big appetite for the delicious farmhouse food. The breakfast is a fantastic spread!

Les Dames du Panthéon, Paris
Set in an iconic, intellectual Paris neighbourhood, Les Dames du Panthéon is an intimate hotel that’s high on my travel hit list. I love the stories here – each floor pays tribute to a famous French heroine, with rooms decorated to help tell their tale, such as the vintage boxing gloves in one of the Edith Piaf rooms, a bittersweet tribute to the great love of her life, boxer Marcel Cerdan. With its plush champagne bar, dazzling design and Paris setting, this is a great place to bed down with your partner.

COSMOPOLITAN CORNISH CHIC
Beach at Bude, Cornwall
Don’t dismiss Cornwall just because it’s winter: The Beach at Bude is a quiet seaside escape, offering bracing walks across the beach nearby. It’s a small, quirky hotel with just 16 rooms, lovely seaside views and a relaxed approach. It has simple, chic New-England-style interiors, and great value too. The fine-dining restaurant is excellent, serving West Country fare. Deluxe Room 16 is the one to choose if you have the chance: it has beautiful views and is super spacious, with your own his ‘n’ hers seating areas.

Ett Hem, Stockholm
There’s something romantic about icy temperatures, and if you want to embrace the winter cold rather than escape it, head to Stockholm. Ett Hem is a seductive townhouse set up as a home from home. I challenge anyone to easily to extract themselves from this beautiful bolthole. Set in Stockholm’s upmarket Lärkstaden area, it offers luxury and style with no-fuss Swedish hospitality. You’ll have to be quick to snap it up though, as there are only a few suites left over the Valentine’s weekend…
Junior Suite from £530 a night to check availability and to book click here.
Definitely in much need of a mini-break after seeing all these romantic hideaways, and do let me know if you take a trip anywhere! For all the above and to view other fabulously romantic hotels visit Mrandmrssmith.com or for advice you can call Becky or one of the travel team on 0330 100 3180.
