Colourful Modern Kings Cross Wedding

WEDDINGS, Informal, Modern, Urban

Photography by Lemonade Pictures

Amy and Matt had a colourful modern Kings Cross wedding with a ceremony in St Pancras station followed by an informal and urban reception.

Colourful Modern Kings Cross Wedding by Lemonade Pictures

This week feels like all my wedding enquiries seem to be for September. It’s no wonder it’s a popular month, the summer is over, life is back to normal, kids are at school and well, the weather seems to be mostly quite lovely.

This wedding took place in September last year and certainly wasn’t short of blue skies. The addition of the colourful flowers, those turquoise blue shoes worked with the couple who’s beaming smiles are almost as bright as both.

When I first moved to London I’d never have imagined Kings Cross to be a destination for a wedding, but how wrong I was. I just love St Pancras and this whole area and couldn’t imagine a place with more of a buzz to say I do.

A Finnish Elopement in London

Finnish Elopement in London

What’s just so wonderful about London is all the many couples that come from near and far who choose the city as the destination for their wedding. Sometimes this means a big party with friends and family from all over the world, but other times it’s all about a simple ‘I do’, just the two of you, like today’s London elopement.

There’s no details to be seen here, no cake, no dancing until the small hours but there’s just something so very lovely about seeing this pair of newlyweds enjoying their special day with each other in this incredible city and yet even more beautiful as they begin their adventures with a soon-to-be new arrival, as Outi is the most radiant pregnant bride…

Outi and Nico eloped from Finland and were married at The Finnish Church in London, just the two of them and their photographer Cecelina to capture the moments. Outi looked incredibly radiant as a pregnant bride in her beautiful Seraphine dress with just a simple bouquet that she made herself. After their ceremony, they took to the iconic areas of London for some gorgeous portrait photos which I adore and I’m sure will be treasured for years to come especially after their new arrival is here!

I hope you enjoy this sweet little wedding, a lovely reminder that small can be beautiful!

Thank you to Outi and Nico and very best wishes for your new adventure, and thank you to their photographer Cecelina for sharing this day with us!

Minna Bridal – For The City Chic or Laid Back Luxe Bride

AISLE STYLE, Bridal Style

Minna Bridal - Boho Bride

Minna Bridal has long been on my radar and is a designer who I am always recommending to those brides looking for affordable, laid back bridal style. Not only is the collection boho in style, it’s also for those environmentally conscientious brides as this is very much a part of the brand which is described as ‘Eco Luxe’.

This collection has great appeal for the stylish bride on a budget with the affordable price range – beautiful short boho dresses starting from £340 (perfect for the elopements, beach and city weddings) through the range to the higher end more intricate designs in beautiful fabrics at £1400 which is still very much affordable style for brides.

Below are a few (!) of my favourites, however you can see the full collection here, and some of the editorial images below too. True to Minna’s style, I love the sheer fabrics, floating feminine skirts, boho shifts in heavy lace and relaxed yet luxurious silks. As a sleeve lover, I’m also pleased that many of the dresses features sleeves or more coverage for those not looking to flash so much flesh!

I may also be a little biased as this dress is the ‘Charley’, I should say not named after me at all but I think she’s rather lovely…!

Since 2008, Minna has always created her collections with sustainable, organic and recycled or locally produced textiles, as well as ensuring the production techniques are environmentally friendly and zero waste through the process. Whilst it’s very much a part of the process of the creation of her designs, they are incredibly stylish and desirable so very much for anyone looking for laid back luxe. Who wouldn’t want to elope or walk barefooted in the sand in one of these? Definitely for the free spirited and stylish bride. Beautiful! You can see the full bridal range here or you can make an appointment to visit the showroom in Brixton, London.

Intimate but beautiful Rainy Chelsea London Wedding

WEDDINGS, Informal

Intimate Rainy Chelsea Wedding London by Brighton Photo

Faye and Dan had their wedding in February this year, after just a month of being engaged in January! They decided to have an intimate Chelsea wedding for just immediate family, which was a hard decision for them but it ended up being the perfect day – despite a little bit of London rain! “It was completely relaxed, fun and so special sharing it with just our closest and most cherished family. We hope to have a party within the next year or two to celebrate with all our friends and family. We have since moved abroad and wanted to make the commitment to each other before we started a new chapter and adventure in our lives together.”

Chelsea is such a beautiful part of London that it is the most charming location for an elopement or intimate wedding. Faye and Dan chose to hold their ceremony at the Chelsea Town Hall registry office which is renowned for it’s celebrity nuptials,“A couple of days after we were officially engaged we booked the Rossetti room at the Kensington and Chelsea registry office – we didn’t even have time to go and see it but liked the idea of all the famous couples who had got married there before us!”

Faye’s style totally encapsulates a London Bride with her city-chic outfit with beautiful short lace dress, birdcage veil and of course, no London wedding would be complete without the ultimate accessory… a pretty white umbrella! Judging by their smiles it looks like they didn’t notice the drizzle at all…

“I wanted to wear something quite simple and understated so I didn’t look specifically for a ‘wedding dress’. Instead I went shopping on Oxford Street with my mum and sister and we all fell in love with a Diane Von Furstenberg ivory lace dress in Selfridges. I wanted blue shoes and later found these in Nine West. With the dress and shoes ticked off the list I started to relax only to realise about a week before the wedding that I had not even thought about any accessories or a coat! My friends helped me so much by sending me ideas and options and coming with me to try things on. Despite being adamant that I wanted to look low key, I was then worried that I didn’t look bridal at all – that’s when Fur Coat No Knickers saved the day. I bought a vintage feather stole, a birdcage and a gorgeous hair clip from them a few days before the wedding.”

“My regular hair stylist, Giovanna at Gino Hairdressing in London, did a brilliant job of my hair and makeup, I couldn’t have been happier with the end result. Giovanna is such a lovely person and I couldn’t recommend her enough!”

Dan looked dashing in a Navy three piece suit “Dan didn’t want a traditional wedding suit and so we were looking for something that was special but could be worn again. We found the perfect suit in the sale in Reiss which he wore with a shirt from Hugo Boss. He wore a tie he already owned that we both really liked and bought new shoes from Russell and Bromley.”

“My mum and dad arranged my bouquet and Dan’s buttonhole through their local florist and brought them up to the registry office for us. I was open to suggestions and ended up going with a simple but beautiful ivory bouquet.”

The wedding was so last minute they didn’t have a photographer until their thoughtful and generous friends booked Heather at Brighton Photo for the couple to ensure they had the precious memories of the day! “As we gradually told more and more people about the wedding one question that kept popping up was whether we would have a photographer. Two weeks before the day we still hadn’t got round to organising anyone… this is where my wonderful friends saved the day. They arranged and booked the amazing Heather of Brighton Photo to be our wedding photographer. She had shot one of their weddings in the summer and had done such a beautiful job. Heather was great at making us feel at ease on the day. She had put a lot of research into the best locations for the photos and she really committed to the shots getting absolutely drenched in the process! We are so happy with the photos which do an amazing job of capturing the most important day in our lives and will be a beautiful reminder for many years to come.”

The couple celebrated with a visit to a local pub, The Phene where the venue kindly allowed them to relax in the upstairs private lounge with their family in a beautiful setting whilst the attentive staff looked after them whilst they sipped on Champagne. They later went to The famous Bluebird Restaurant nearby where the party of nine in fact dined amongst all the other guests in the restaurant despite it being their wedding day! “We loved the buzzy atmosphere, the food & wine were delicious and the staff were brilliant! It was the perfect end to the perfect day.”

Congratulations to the lovely Faye and Dan, such a cool city wedding – thank you for sharing your day with us and to Heather for her beautiful work – just shows a little bit of rain does no harm!

Kati + Tom – A Wedding Rave Up at The George Tavern

WEDDINGS, Informal

One of the things you have got to love about London is diversity. It’s everywhere, and even on these pages. I love writing this blog as it allows me to share some luxurious, decadent celebrations, some romantic traditional weddings and then, some like this. Today’s couple, Kati and Tom planned a super relaxed pub…well wedding rave up! A ceremony in an old car park, maids of ‘dishonour’, flower girls with cat ears and techno for the evening entertainment. This couple clearly know how to have fun and celebrate. Perhaps wedding raves are the next big thing… if so, send an invite my way!

“The idea was always to have fun. It was about bringing together everyone that we cared about to add to our party of two. I still can’t get over how relaxed and fun packed the day and night was. A proper rave up by the name of Love Haze. We’d commission a young designer Chris Dillon who had been through one of the programmes that I run at D&AD – he did an amazing job of creating an old school rave flyer that set us off perfectly…it all built from there. The whistle love hearts are still the most perfect icon there could have been to represent us and our day.”

I absolutely LOVE Kati’s alternative bridal dress, with black embroidery and lace. For a city bride looking for something more alternative it’s always worth exploring designer collections if you find bridal boutiques are just too formal for what you’re after. “I struggled to find the dress that was ‘the one’, so I split the difference and got two! The gorgeous lace Maje for the day and a ‘cosmic tutu’ for the evening. My stunning best friend/maid of dishonour Nat had a change too, so we switched it up for the evening., I did have the most amazing Kat Maconie shoes but they didn’t last the afternoon, so the biker boots came out for the dance floor stomp. Like the rest of the wedding, I kept a relaxed approach to it all.

As my Maje dress had black stitching down the front, it seemed fitting to have my ‘maids of dishonour’ in black. My make up was pretty natural as I was in the driving seat and it’s all I can do!

My flower girls were in also lace/satin with gold cat ears [they couldn’t believe I’d said they could wear them]. My husband and brother-in-law [his best man] looked beyond hansom in the Reiss suits they’d worn the year before when my husband had been best man for his brother. We’d changed the accessorised colours [we went for a fern green, with the blue linen suits and peach tan leather shoes] to give it a refreshed feel.”

You wouldn’t know this couple got pretty much married in a car park would you? Lucky for them as the sun was shining they quickly put Plan B into action: “The George Tavern was the perfect location, the staff were also a big part of making it such a perfect day. We were supposed to get married in the old theatre above the pub, but when we got an unexpected incredible day of sunshine, it was all hands on deck to move it outside in to what was a car park a couple of weeks before. The ceremony was short but beautiful, conducted by my husband’s ex-agent who is now a celebrant. It was super honest and told the tale of us and our friends. Although neither of us are too into poetry, there is one poem that became extremely meaningful to me around the time I met Tom; Rumi’s Zero Circle – my sister read it as part of the ceremony.

The flowers were collected over the couple of weeks before the wedding by my sister and mum. We used flowers from my mums garden on the tables and if Deb [my sister] saw a vessel of any kind it would get a plant in it for the day. Deb also did an amazing job cutting my bouquet fresh just before I walked down the isle. I also had a head dress by Grace and Thorn – it didn’t last too long in all the activity though sadly!

“The food was incredible – very informal. There was no sit down dinner, just food available at various points for people to be able to help themselves to. People still wax lyrical about the Jollof Pot guys. Super lovely people too! We wanted to put our money behind the bar and ensure all our friends and family had the best time without having to put their hands in their pockets so pretty much all our budget went on this!”

When you hear a couple have had techno at their wedding, you know they know how to party… “For us, it was always going to be about the music. It’s huge part of us, how we met and our relationship now. My husband did a mix just for our first dance and after the Love Haze pre-recorded mega mix, the music throughout the evening was provided by our friends, who DJ’d one after the other to a heady mix of old school, hardcore, jungle and of course techno. My husband had created homemade lasers with string and UV lights. With the addition of a couple of hazers, the ‘rave cave’ was complete and we were set for entertainment all night long.”

“Our photographer Lisa was amazing. I saw her pics online and loved them so I contacted her only weeks before the wedding and managed to snag her on one of her only free weekends of the year! The pictures are one of the things that people still comment on too. I’m over the moon with them and remember the first time Tom and me opened them up – we were moved by how much they had managed to capture of the day. Lisa’s pictures are visible evidence of my most perfect memories.”

Memorable moments:

“Walking down the aisle to Yazoo ‘Only You’ literally in to a Love Haze towards my husband, being by his side and looking out at all our amazing family in friends awash in sun light. It was home.

Plus, my dad’s speech. He’s a quiet man, but it started off by him jumping on the sofa and talking about laying down a track [he’s 71]. I’ve never felt so proud or in awe. He was famous that day.”

What an awesome couple and beautiful work as always from London Bride favourite, Lisa Jane Photography. Thanks to you all for sharing!
