Jonno + Tamara – Relaxed Glamour at The Trafalgar Tavern Greenwich

WEDDINGS, Elegant, Informal

Trafalgar Tavern London Wedding by Emma Case Photography

This fun couple Jonno and Tamara had a super stylish but romantic wedding, also this is one blog to read if you’re feeling a little overwhelmed with the planning, a little bit stressed with logistics and makes us remember that basically getting married is amazing!

This couple thought long and hard about having the day they wanted, and it truly shows throughout that they enjoyed every single moment of it. Nothing forced, everything was their way and just look at how radiant they are because of it!

Their photographer was Emma Case, who along with her husband Pete, are now ridiculously nice, talented and wonderful wedding friends of mine, who also happened to recently post a great article on stop saying ‘but’ and having the wedding YOU want, go check it. A good reminder to us all. So without further ado, enjoy the beaming smiles, stylish outfits, emotional speeches and lots of dancing…

From the bride, Tamara: “We spent a really long time questioning the decisions we made, as we didn’t want just to have wedding by numbers.  It’s easy to get caught up in the hype and do everything by the book – but what’s important is how the day reflects you as a couple.”

Tamara chose the utterly feminine and beautifully beaded Eden by Jenny Packham which she paired with a glamorous pair of Jimmy Choo’s  “I LOVED my dress.  I’m going to get drunk and wear it around the house pretty soon, I’m sure.” I wonder how many of you actually do this post-wedding?

Her beautiful ‘Gatsby’ inspired hairstyle was by Victoria Drama, who also did her flawless make up. Now we have to mention Tamara’s gorgeous bridesmaids, and those ultra glamorous navy vintage style silk dresses which were the ‘Giselle’ dresses from Ghost. “Don’t the girls look beautiful!? They had different styles all in the navy but lucky they all chose the style that was my favourite! I wanted them to be comfortable and they loved the dresses!”

I love how they turned the chilly London weather to their advantage and styling it out with huge fur and feather coats and shrugs, serious glamour!

Tamara and Jonno were able to hold their very special service at St Paul’s Crypt as Jonno’s dad has an MBE. It’s funny as it is such a privilege to be able to hold your wedding at St Paul’s yet I seem to feature quite a few weddings held here, such lucky couples with very special family members! How wonderful to always have such an iconic London building as a very special place to you…

For their recessional music they had Windmill played by Eric Gilder which was music that Tamara’s Grandfather who was a composer, wrote. How magical!

“It’s an obvious one – but I loved the service.  We even had my Grandfather, who was a composer, have his music played in the Cathedral. You spend so long planning everything around it that you can lose sight that it’s all about the vows.  It was so emotional.  We got married in the crypt under St Paul’s Catherdal because Jonno’s dad has an MBE, and it is the Crypt of the British Empire.  So it was special because it was something his dad could provide for us – but also St Paul’s is a symbol of London, the city we live in and the city we love.  It’s brilliant every time we see it to think that it’s now part of our history.”

I absolutely love these portrait shots of the couple as they’ve come out of St Paul’s as husband and wife, strolling through the park and scenery around Greenwich with such happiness. “Our photographer was Emma Case,  she is amazing and I can’t imagine her not having being at the wedding, even though we’d never met before!”

Tamara kept her flowers quite simple with all whites and included lily of the valley in her bouquet as it was her Grandmother’s favourite flower. The groom chose a smart Paul Smith suit in petrol blue, with super smart Grensen brogues, “Jonno wanted a suit he loved, rather than hiring a dodgy fitting one!  He looked so handsome in it!”

After a trip on the good old fashioned London route master bus, they held their wedding reception at The Trafalgar Tavern in Greenwich, which happened to be not far from where they live. “We looked at so many anonymous restaurants & hotels for the reception – but we wanted to keep it personal to opted for The Trafalgar Tavern, near where we live.  It’s a brilliantly historic building, and Holly, the event co-ordinator was fantastic!”  It’s such a fun moment when the bride and groom come in to the crowd as they cheer and congratulate them!

“Our ‘naked’ victoria sponge cake was made by a friend’s mum, Annie Genower, I sent her some pictures of the types of Victoria sponges I liked and she made a perfect one!  We cut the cake with Jonno’s brother’s naval sword.”

They chose some simple but sophisticated stationery from Artcadia “We went for the Uncomplicated range from Artcadia and my bridesmaid Emily created our logo and helped me decide on how to make the table names.  She is a craft wizard and works at Women’s Weekly!”

“When we got engaged we sat down and talked about what we wanted from the day, and what was important to us.  I said speeches.  Jonno wanted an hour of old-school music and a green lazer.  Both were amazing.”

I think Emma has done such an amazing job of capturing all emotions of the speeches. Funny how even though you haven’t heard a word you can still feel all the emotions of what was said.

“We had a band playing for an hour who were a ‘supergroup’ made up of my friends and Jonno’s friends who played instruments – some of whom had never met before the four rehearsals they had! Our ‘super group’ band started us off and we then had Max from The Wedding Smashers DJ. They also even bought the green laser – everyone loved it!

We are both awkward dancers, so we chose to have a ‘last dance’ of then night – when everyone was drunk! We danced to Signed, Sealed, Delivered by Stevie Wonder. It was more like a mating dance by that point, it was amazing!!”

I promise you, you are all going to freaking love getting married!  I’m jealous of you all that you have this amazing day to come…

And with that I’d like to send huge congratulations to Tamara and Jonno on a wonderful wedding and party. How fun does the evening look, wish I could have been there! Anyone want a blogger at their wedding, feel free to send an invite!

Huge thanks also to Emma and Pete for sharing their wonderful work as always, such a pleasure to have on London Bride.

Amanda + Tim – Midsummer Night’s Dream St Paul’s Wedding

WEDDINGS, Elegant

Amanda and Tim had a ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ St Paul’s wedding in the city. Classic and romantic the couple had an enchanting day, at the very special St Paul’s Cathedral followed by Skinner’s Hall with the bride Amanda enthralling the ethereal Titania.

Whilst I know some of you are here to look at the pretty pictures [which they are of course thanks to Dasha Caffrey] however I do encourage you to read the details on their wedding day too – I always find the stories of ‘London Brides’ so very meaningful…

Amanda chose a beautiful wedding dress by Temperley which was in fact a dress she’d had her eye on for over a year before she got engaged! “I first saw my dress while shopping with my mother-in-law for her own wedding dress 18 months before (we got engaged on the same day).  When I came to find a dress a year later Temperley still had the dress much to my delight.”

She teamed the dress with a beautiful veil lace edged veil which was the perfect addition for a wedding in the grand St Paul’s Cathedral. She also wore an utterly gorgeous pair of ivory lace peep toe shoe-boots from Harriet Wilde – the Chantilly.

You may also notice the bridesmaids killer heels in that gorgeous peach colour to match their neutral outfits which were by Pied a Terre at Topshop. Amanda had spotted the girls dresses online from the Joy boutique – “I sent the link to my three bridesmaids who luckily also loved the dress.  For the jackets we went on a shopping marathon along Oxford St and right at the end of the day found the right one in Coast. Ros Osterman altered each dresses to make them slightly different and to fit the girls perfectly.”

Amanda and Tim were married at St Paul’s Cathedral – a very special place to be able to have a wedding in London but it was also very significant for the couple personally in many ways,  “We were lucky enough to get married at the OBE Chapel of St Paul’s Cathedral due to Tim’s father (Sir Richard Francis), who was knighted for his work with the British Council.  Sadly, Richard passed away when Tim was just eight, and so this was an important way to remember him.  The chapel is a surprisingly intimate setting and includes the tombs of Sir Christopher Wren, Sir Joshua Reynolds and Sir John Everett Millais, which for an art historian was such an honour.  However, for us, the most special part of getting married in the OBE chapel was being married by Mother Sarah.  She is such a calm and lovely person, who helped us both in the in the lead-up to and during our wedding day.”

“Tim and I wanted an informal and relaxed look for both the flowers and decoration of each venue.  Therefore Skinner’s Hall was decorated with tea lights, ribbons, rustic flowers (in pink and purple), and hand-made stationary. Our flowers were decided upon with the help of Sam at Violets & Velvet who patiently helped us during our initial meeting.  Sam suggested including fresh herbs in the bouquets and table arrangements which smelt wonderful.  Also as I am half Scottish and we met at Edinburgh University we also included thistles in the table decorations.”

Having a central London wedding can sometimes meaning compromising on location and not having any outdoor space, however they came across the perfect location where they could enjoy the best of both worlds and what a lovely day it was for them to make the most of it “Tim and I fell in love with Skinners Hall instantly, having spent months searching.  The venue was perfect with its different interior/exterior spaces that allowed guests to dance, drink, eat, chill out or just watch from the big central staircase (a surprise hit)!” Looks like the guests were all enjoying the fountain roof garden!

It was clearly a very special day for Amanda and Tim, but a few were very poignant “Our exchange of vows and the choir singing Ave Maria during the service.  Then in the evening, my dad’s band, “The Magic Pandas”, really upped the tempo – at the end of the night having all our nearest and dearest on the dance floor signing Bohemian Rhapsody, and then Ho Hey (Lumineers) at the top of their lungs.”

Amanda’s planning tip “The scheduling of the day is so important; we tried to make sure there were no periods of time when guests’ were hanging around.  We also printed a schedule of the day so everyone knew where they were to be and when.  I wish we had realised earlier that you shouldn’t try and do everything yourself, delegation is key to survival!”

Congratulations Amanda and Tim on a beautiful day and with thanks to the talented photographer, Dasha Caffrey for sharing it with us.
