WEDDINGS, Informal

Claudine and Rob chose to celebrate with a Peckham wedding with local venues and suppliers for their relaxed pub wedding reception with a vintage nod and DIY touches.

If you’re looking for laid back inspiration done with style then this should be it! Gorgeous couple Claudine and Rob chose to celebrate in Peckham with an intimate civil ceremony at their local registry office followed by a fun pun reception. Given the bride is an illustrator there are lots of lovely creative touches that enabled them to put their style to the day and we love their laid back vintage style and use of dried flowers. Also, is there any better location for portraits than a London rooftop car park? Great work by We Heart Pictures Photography.

Old Hollywood Relaxed Glamour City Wedding & Eliza Jane Howell Dress

WEDDINGS, Elegant, Informal, Vintage Inspired

Photography by Louise Adby

An Autumn wedding that combines Old Hollywood glamour with iconic London cityscapes, a relaxed and personal reception with a sprinkling of rain like only London know knows how.

Old Hollywood Inspired London City Wedding by Louise Adby Photography

This wedding has such a perfect balance of glamour but with an effortless relaxed format. Inspired by the 1940s, this couple looked every inch the part with the bride in a dazzling Eliza Jane Howell gown and delicate Britten Wedding veil and a bouquet by Daisy Ellen Floral Design that echoed not only the season but the shades of burgundy to co-ordinate with a very dashing groom.

Victoria’s hair and make is up such a gorgeous timeless look, which I’m sure will serve as great inspiration for brides out there. After a traditional Roman Catholic ceremony at the breathtakingly beautiful St Etheldredas Church, the couple and their guests hopped on a gold London bus (who thought a bus could have a hint of glitz?) and took to the iconic areas of St Paul’s for a beautiful backdrop for their portraits with their photographer Louise Adby.

In contrast they chose the relaxed pub setting of The Happenstance in the city where they could indulge in good food and drink whilst adding personal touches to the day for their guests to enjoy such as a temporary tattoo station and a Krispy Kreme doughnut cake. We love how this story transitions through the photographs, and particularly the evening dancing images which just show how much fun was had right until the end of the night!

Tom and Eve had a fun and relaxed pub wedding after their town hall ceremony in Stoke Newington. I love bride Eve’s slightly 60s style with her dashing groom and pretty maid all perfectly paired. They added some lovely fun touches such as pom poms, balloons and lights to the pub to ‘prettify’ their pub ‘knees up’.

Designer Spotlight – Charlie Brear Bridal 2015 Collection

AISLE STYLE, Bridal Style

Charlie Brear Bridal 2015 Collection - ISERE SKIRTisere skirt

This year, amongst the couples I’ve worked with to plan and style their weddings, I’ve had 4 of my lovely brides (with impeccable taste!) all choose British designer and stylist, Charlie Brear (note: not to be confused with my own name, though they are strangely similar!) Considering all the designers out there, that’s a pretty good rate and I have to say, I’m not surprised.

The latest Charlie Brear 2015 collection is incredibly savvy and sophisticated. Inspired by iconic decades of style, the designs are flawlessly combined with Charlie’s own contemporary aesthetic (as seen in her ready-to-wear line). Beautiful cut silouhettes, layers of soft tulles, chiffons and romantic lace can all be combined with the innovative ‘Additions’ as each bride has the opportunity to create her own unique style. A simple crepe, satin or chiffon dress can be layered with anything from sequinned overdresses (these are wow, let me tell you), sheer lace backs, incredibly feminine tiered skirts, plus silk sashes or soft shrugs to add that finishing touch all fully customised to each bride effortlessly.

As a formal stylist, Charlie Brear created what was formerly known as The Vintage Wedding Dress Company back in 2005 after sourcing many a vintage wedding gown for a photo shoot. Since then amongst her love of vintage, Charlie grew the collection to include a capsule bridal offering of made to order gowns, using details and accents of decades gone by as inspiration for a contemporary take on vintage glamour.

Since then, the company was re-launched as Charlie Brear and as well as bridal collections, she also has ‘Additions’ which is a collection of unique pieces to compliment the made to order gowns, such as lace sleeves, over skirts, lace shrugs and this is what makes her designs so sought after as effectively this enables the bride to customise her own bespoke gown with a few small additions to suit the individual.

All the collections are produced in the UK using a diverse range of hand selected fabrics and trims. In the beautiful flagship London boutique tucked away off  they also offer original one of a kind vintage dresses as part of their Original Vintage Collection.

Haivng visited the flagship boutique in Fitzrovia earlier this year, I was blown away by the fabrics, the cuts and most of all the excitement that comes of being able to tailor your dress to suit you and make the most of both your style and your figure. If you aren’t London based there are a number of other stockists available throughout the UK, which you can see listed here.

I literarily wouldn’t know where to start if I were trying these on, though I’d say the ‘Aurele’ tulle skirt with glittery sequin overlay would likely be a good place to start…

If you want a little look behind the scenes you can see a pretty cute little video here (in case the images above weren’t enough pretty for you!) and I also highly recommend you follow Charlie Brear on instagram, it’s a beautiful and inspiring feed!

Jennie + James – A colourful and cute Italian vintage wedding

WEDDINGS, Modern, Vintage Inspired

Colourful Lonodn Wedding at Delfina by Catherine Mead Photography

A burst of colour on the blog today, super cute, modern and smiles a plenty with this wedding! Jennie and James had a beautiful Roman Catholic ceremony at St Peter’s Italian Church in Clerkenwell followed by a fabulous reception at Delfina in Bermondsey, London. The day was documented by Catherine Mead who not only captures the beauty of a wedding day but the true personalities and love between this couple and all the lovely moments and touches throughout, “I think Catherine was the best decision I made!  Apart from saying yes of course.”

Jennie and James had a unique fusion of Italian traditions with vintage fun “My theme was sort of 1950’s London meets Italy.  My dad’s side of the family are Italian hence the Italian church and the Italian theme. A mix on vintage and Italy – a white wedding but with an informal air.  We just wanted people to have fun but to really come away thinking how ‘Jen and James’ that day was.”

The dress! Isn’t this the sweetest prettiest 50s tulle design? Jennie chose this fun and oh so girly dress from one of the best vintage dress suppliers in London, Elizabeth Avey My dress was an original 1950’s vintage dress.  My mum and I spent a day out trying on dresses in three different dress shops all vintage as I knew that is what I wanted.  Elizabeth’s was the last dress shop we went to.  I had found a dress in each of the previous two shops, which I loved and thought, might be the one.  My appointment at Elizabeth’s was at 6pm so I was quite tired by this time.  Trying on even more dresses began to confuse me.  However, when I put on my dress and came out to show my mum, mum said there was a renewed energy about me and I came out prancing around like a show horse.  I didn’t want to take it off.  I just knew I had found the one, a mix of tulle and Chantilly lace.  It was perfect!

My headdress was a 1950’s inspired headdress made from original 1950’s broaches from Vintage Headdresses .  I wore pearl earrings, which I borrowed from my mum.  My bracelet was from Butler and Wilson.  James’ mum gave my necklace to me – James’ dad bought it for her many years ago.  It was very sentimental as James’ dad passed away when James was young.”

“I didn’t really have a colour scheme apart from a LOTS of colour.  My florist described the colour scheme as a riot of Technicolor!  Like when films were first in colour and the sky was so blue compared to a girls overly red lips.” Colourful London Wedding at Delfina by Catherine Mead Photography Colourful London Wedding at Delfina by Catherine Mead Photography Colourful London Wedding at Delfina by Catherine Mead Photography Colourful London Wedding at Delfina by Catherine Mead Photography Colourful London Wedding at Delfina by Catherine Mead Photography Colourful London Wedding at Delfina by Catherine Mead Photography Colourful London Wedding at Delfina by Catherine Mead Photography Colourful London Wedding at Delfina by Catherine Mead Photography

“The whole day was the best day of my life!  Particular moments included my dad actually giving me away. I couldn’t stop shaking but he was as nervous as me!   First seeing James at the alter.  He says my bottom lip was trembling but he was pleased I kept it together otherwise he said he would have broken down.  James’ mum and brother welcomed me formally into the family by giving me a signet ring with the family crest on during the best mans speech.  That was very moving.  James telling me I looked beautiful when he first saw me!”

The events space venue was the perfect blank canvas for Jennie and James, who wanted to transform the space into their own style, “Delfina is a very contemporary venue in a very quirky part of town.  It is a restaurant but with a large white room which can almost be treated like a blank canvas.  James and I wanted somewhere we could make our own and really show off who we are as a couple.  The team there have great experience in putting on all sorts of events so are a great help and inspiration.  There was a great black and white checker board dance floor which I loved and you could do all sorts with the lighting there which really made the room.  There was also a really cool outside space, which is sometimes hard to find in the heart of London.  Also with me being from London living in London it was important for us to have it in this city”.

Both Jennie and James put lots of thought and effort into their stationery and made all the items themselves! “I made my table plan, menus, place cards and table name cards.  My table plan was actually an old garden gate, which I painted white.  In front of the gate I had two old tea crate that had been planted up by the florist.  One crate had our names and wedding date and the second one said please take your seats.  We decorated menus and placecards with paper roses but we also and I bought vintage looking typewriter stamps and stamped out each of the place names with these stamps. Our table name signs were photos of James and I holding up signs with the table names on, we named the table’s places that meant things to us, so the street we first lived on.  As well names of our parents house, towns they live or business they own – this linked back to our invites. I also placed individual bags of sweets for every guest in pink and white striped paper bags.

This last photo caught my eye as it just sums up such a happy day, and it also happens to be one of the bride’s favourite moments too “One of my favourite photos is a black and white one of our first dance.  James is spinning me round and I am really laughing.”

Just when you think the night could be over as your guests are leaving, and the evening comes to a close…not for this couple! Jennie and James finished the night at a nearby Salsa club with close friends and family “There was an old couple in the club who were regulars.  The man took hold of me and the women took James and the whole club made space for us on the dance floor and they taught us a dance.  They then told us their secret to a long lasting marriage, which was never forget to laugh.”

What a perfect end to a perfect day! Congratulations to Jennie and James and huge thanks to photographer Catherine Mead for sharing this beautiful day.
